Surely this would rank in the top ten most important questions of all time...

I'm currently drawing up a heap of game-boards for the class. Now doing a snakes and ladders board. But can somebody help me. Should the snakes heads be pointing up or down? If you land at the bottom of a ladder you go up. Of course. But if you land on the snakes tail do you go down towards his head or vice versa.

Snake position advice please........

For some reason a second question suddenly just flashed into my mind..... How the heck do snakes have sex???? Do they tongue kiss. Is it risky? Have any snakes ever died from love bites?

But most importantly, on a snakes and ladders board, should the snakes be facing head upwards or tail upwards..... (ie head or tail facing "north")???????????????????????

if you land on a snake's head, you slide down it's body.

I don't know how snakes kiss, but I do know how they have sex. I know in great detail because I researched it six years ago when my really bright 6th graders "had" to know!

Male and female snakes have sexual organs which normally appear as an opening on the underside of the body. On the male, this can turn inside-out and extend outside the body when necessary.

Aren't you glad you asked?

As for the game board:

Thats what I thought but I've been told otherwise. I have been told that you slide in the direction that the snake is facing. To me it makes more sense that the snake eats you and you travel along the natural digestive direction towards its tail. Is there a snakes and ladders rule book around? I believe this to be a very important question. Along with the chicken and the egg debate...........

Maybe i should have included a poll......

Come now, it's a simple enough game! Look at the numbers if you're in doubt- landing on a snake will always send you back with regard to the numbers.

You could do the American version and make a chutes and ladders board...none of which have ANY discernable body parts. Wink

I always loved that game, but always wondered, WHY is the greatest good deed you could do (as characterized by the longest ladder) rescuing a kitty from a tree, and the WORST thing you could possibly do (as characterized by the longest chute) sneak a cookie from the cookie jar?

Anyone want to have a philosophical discussion on a children's board game? Next up...the social ramifications of the Game of Life, from its inception in the 1960s to today.

As far as I'm concerned, pinching cookies from the cookie jar is the most hienous (spelling??) crime out there. Sure you can kill somebody. You can ddong chim 'em. You can stick 'em in a room full of kindigarton kids. You can boil their dog and eat it. You can even use someones inflatable donkey/sheep without asking and not clean it afterwards.
But knocking off a couple of their cookies is just plain WRONG!

Heinous... Wink

I suppose nicking cookies is the most G-rated form of stealing that Milton Bradley could have come up with. But certainly drawing on walls is much much more a serious kiddie crime?

writing on walls can be erased or painted over. Consumed cookies can never be returned. Not in the original format anyway.......

Hang on..... i thought we were discussing snakes and ladders.

Hey! my threads been high-jacked!!!

There is a shop in Insadong, that has all these cute, tacky, things. Including a snakes and ladders board game. I think it's just a piece of paper, with the game printed on it, but thats all you need. If you walk down Insadong from Jonggak station direction, it's on the right side of the road, about half way down. You can't miss it. It's got all these old toys, and stuff like that in the windows. great postcards too - knight rider, bionic woman, etc.
