I hope this will save you some of the hassle it's caused me!

Wow it's some diffcult to find out how to get your dog back to Canada/America/etc. Finally, I was able to find a way that's not going to cost me 1.5 million won (one-way). Most flights told me I had to fly my dog cargo. My dog's 30+ kg's and with the kennel, she's way over the allowable 32 kg's for MOST flights.

I found the best company to fly with is NWA. They have been very cooperative and it's only going to cost 300 000 Won to get her home (one-way) The number for North West Airlines in Korea is 02 732 1700. If you order the ticket online it is a lot cheaper than going through a travel agent and you get 2000 bonus miles. Also, if you sign into the site 1 day before you leave, you get another 1000 mile bonus.
Noorthwest Korea - www.nwa.co.kr - It's in English as well!
This is what you must look at before flying your pet with North West. http://www.nwa.com/services/shipping/cargo/ppet2.shtml - must read!

Now.. another problem was finding a crate that was big enough for my dog. There is an EXCELLENT vet in Bundang! Her English is perfect and she's very helpful! She just placed an order for a huge Sky Kennel (# 550) and it's only going to cost 160 000 Won. I had called a bunch of places and sent emails but they would not send the kennel to Korea. She said it will be here within 2 wks. (Ms) Dr. Kim's the owner of Apple Pet and the tel# is 031 726 4800. Dog's should be kennel trained in advance before the big trip.

There are alot of things to find out before you travel with a pet!
Make sure to get documentation of a rabies shot and it's only good for a year. Deending on the country, your dog mya have to get other shots as well and maybe have to stay in quatantine for a while. If you have any other questions the number for the pet quarantine in Incheon Airport
032 740 2660.

If you decide to leave your pet in Korea while you travel, I've heard there is a great kennel, but it's pretty expensive. It costs about 500 000 Won a month but there are a lot of dogs around to play with and they are well taken care of. The website for this kennel is www.dog09.net

http://webfoot.com/travel/tips/pets.php - another useful site! Some more tips about flying with your pet!

Ah.. a couple more things. We bought our yellow lab in Chungmuro, Seoul. She's been great with NO problems. I guess it's a pretty shady place to buy a pet but there are tons or pet stores around.

The internet is a great place to but dog bones and treats. www.ebay.co.kr - Site's all in Korean

The Korean government agency dealing with this issue is the National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service (NVRQS) and you can access its web site at: http://www.nvrqs.go.kr . This home page is available both in Korean & English languages but the pet quarantine information is available only in Korean language. Any Korean-speaking person will be able to help you find the information easily on that site.

Also, the following links will guide you to the pertinent information about traveling with your pets into and out of the U.S.A.:

If you have any further questions about pet quarantine issues, please contact the Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) office in the U.S. Embassy Seoul, Korea (Phone: 02-725-5495 / Fax: 02-725-5496 / E-mail: [email protected]).
