I am just asking some advice from others who have maybe been through this before - and know what will happen
I have a friend who was on an E-2 visa........
the friends visa finished on August 03rd...
The friend is still is Korea (overstayed the visa more than 3 months)...
Now the friend has been offered a job - however - doesn't know whether to submit all documents to immigration or leave the country and come back first....
Obviously the friend will receive a fine....
but does anyone know how much the fine will be?? 100,000won, 1,000,000won?
and if the friend decided to leave the country for a few weeks and return to get signed up with a new job and new visa - will the friend be allowed back into the country?
any suggestions from somebody else who has done it will be great...

I wouldn't say that - but he does have his pic up everywhere - in "foreign model" advertisements (posters) in Subway stations and on Department store walls...
really - I need to let him know the outcome of his foolishness...
apart from the 100,000won per day = 9million and rising - does anyone else have some additional info? |

Nope. Hasn't been like that since 2004. Unless the policy has changed since late 2005, the first 30 days is a flat 100,000 fine. After 30 days, the fine goes up exponentially. Three months? You're probably looking at 3-4 million. |

It all depends on who you get at immigration. I overstayed for 6 weeks and didn't pay a cent.
I'd recommend your friend to go to the airport early and visit the office inside the airport. They are generally very pleasant to deal with |

Male model??? Dude, are you serious about this or just trying to get a rouse out of people? You always come across in your posts as someone that knows more than everyone else, yet you are asking for advice on this? |

I usually know what I am doing - however a lot of other "friends" have been asking me for help lately...
some of them (such as changing from E-2 over to student visa) - and others (overstaying their visas)... I have never had to deal that before - because I always stick to the rules...
so I never looked into those things before...
guess - I have just been meeting a lot of DIFFERENT people lately...

| I overstayed 9 months on a H-1 visa. I did not register it properly, not my fault 100% they told me the fine amount something like 12 million won plus some other fees. But she asked if I like Korea, I said of course I love Korea so much, this my wife to be I want to live in Korea it so good, She smiled and said just make sure you register next time. |

You mean Busan, right? Everytime I have to deal with the people at Incehon, they have been downright rude. |

There used to be an amnesty for foreign workers who had overstayed their visa when i was in korea. It was january/ february time.
It was the same time as an immigration crackdown, which got me deported. (I did have tourist visa though.)
If this still happens, tell him to hang on until then as they never fined anyone during that month as an incentive for people to hand themselves in to get kicked out. |
