Park Geun-hye ends silence and backs Lee Myung-bak
Breaking five days of silence, Park Geun-hye yesterday finally took sides among the divided conservatives.
She backed Grand National Party nominee Lee Myung-bak, though she wont actively campaign for him, and criticized independent candidate Lee Hoi-chang for taking him on.

Some of us do. Despite having reservations about conservative candidate Lee, I'd still rather see a GNP president than another Uri love-the-norks/hate-the-migooks debarcle. |

I guess she's kicking herself now for exposing some of Lee Myungbag's financial crimes when she was competing with him for the candidacy. |

I dont agree. I think it was good that it came out early. That makes it a non-factor pretty much. If he is still leading by over 15 points over LHC then that means people dont give a toss. The worst thing would be if it came out later. Now its a non-issue. The only variable is that old fart Lee Hoi Chang, but hopefully now that Park came out in support of LMB that will nullify the old man's support in some regions like Daegu where Park is #1. The leftists dont count, this is a 2 horse race. |

So what you're saying is that it's good that his corruption was uncovered earlier on rather than later when it would've stopped an evil, corrupt man from winning the office.
And I'm not frightened by his corruption so much as his predisposition toward fascism. |

Yes. I couldnt care less about his corruption or rather his ALLEGED corruption. You think the left is clean? Seriously? How many cases of corruption have come out now under Roh? Shin? The tax office, Roh's aides? Corruption is a non-factor. Evil? How the hell do you figure he is evil? Who is more evil, LMB or a man who as uniFICTION minister was one of the most loyal Kim Jong-il supporters?
Korea needs several things. Top amongst them are:
1. Somebody who has a good grasp of economics. Roh did not. Does a pretty-boy TV news anchor? I doubt it. The leftists have already shown they cant manage anything, hell they couldnt even manage their own primary. The country? 10 years of mismanagement speaks for itself. LMB has shown he gets things done.
2. a SANE North Korea policy. Recently Roh said his NK policy was a sticks and carrots policy...show me the sticks. PLEASE. NK does need both sticks and carrots and in this regard the conservatives are a much better choice. NK needs to be rewarded as per agreements when they abide by what they agreed to and they need to be punished when they break their word. Thats rather simple. This government, and Chung was a HUGE part of it both as Uri chairman and a uniFICTION minister never punished NK. Not when they launched missiles, not even when they detonated their nuke. It was business as usual within a couple of months. That MUST stop.
As far as fascism goes, you are like that lunatic Chavez. Let me play the role of the King of Spain and tell you to "SHUT UP". |

Unlike you I believe freedom and democracy are important virtues for a country to strive for, especially in Korea where they're so elusive. |

I am personally rather hoping that Lee's dirty business would get him indicted and therefore forced to step down from being a candidate - and let Park assume the candidacy. |

Yeah, that's what we need - the daughter of a murderous military dictator at the helm. |

Then you shouldn't be supporting Chung.
Don't you remember the time some defectors scurried over a SK school wall in China, unfurled an SK flag and shouted "DaeHan Min-guk!" - only to be quickly beaten and dragged away by Chinese police.
And what did Chung say about these people that were escaping oppression and trying to voice their first bit of freedom?
Basically, he said that they and anyone who helped them are "troublemakers", and that he would ban them from travel to and from SK.
The only trouble they were causing was for Chung during his stint as Unification Minister. He was worried it would cause trouble for his presidential run later on.
A vote for Chung is not a vote for freedom of rights, it's a vote for Chung's career. |

I don't support the guy. But I do think Korea would be better off with a weak, ineffectual president with a background in looking pretty for cameras, than it would be with the daughter of a dictator or a god-botherer who wants to return to the days of the Yushin Constitution. |
