Does someone have definitive information about subway and bus fares in Seoul and Korea in general - Such as individual fares, weekly/monthly/annual travelcards (and their usage), etc?

There is no weekly/monthly fare system that I know of. You just buy a bus/subway card or token thingy and put money on it at the subway que or a street Kiosk. You use it until the money runs out and simply recharge it again.

It'd be neat if they did have monthly/annual passes for unlimited rides, but eh it's so cheap anyways not a huge deal I guess.

Geta transit card so you can transfer between buses and trains cheaply. It is also cheaper to use the card instead of cash.

Example: Bus
Cash:900
Card: 800

There is a monthly subway card that let's you ride at a bigger discount. I'm not sure of the prices, but my friend has one and it saves her money.

The way it works is you buy a certain amount of subway rides at once. You have 1 month to use them. The big problem is that you can't use it for the buses, so people like me who take the bus and the subway are out of luck.

I think they have increased these fares by 100 won.

I use my girfriends bank card which acts like a t-money card.

I never have to top up I just pay her at the end of the month when the bill comes in. It's so much easier.

There used to be a ticket that was good for exactly 60 rides. But no transfers to buses.

It worked out to about 600 won a ride, but it didn't allow you to go to some places outside of Seoul. Some were allowed and some weren't.

Then they changed all the rules, and I didn't buy it again.

It'd be nice if you could use T-Money for taxis.

You can in some taxis. I used my Tcard a lot in taxis around the Jamshil area when I lived there last year.

A one zone subway fare is 900 won with a card or 1000 won cash. It costs an extra 100 won per extra zone. The price went up Jan 2007. Interestingly while they made a big thing about the 100 won price rise, no one mentioned they changed the zones, narrowing the zones. Many trips now involved an extra zone. So what used to be 800 won now runs about 1100 won.

After about 2 years of wishing the same thing, i actually rode in a taxi a few months ago in the Jongno area that used T-Money.
It took a few times of trying and waving the card in front of the scanning machine (until the driver remembered to push some button to activate something....) to get it to work, but it did what it was supposed to do. But it was kind of like bad sex with someone you've been after for a long while.... i was like wow... i the actual experience wasn't as dramatic and life changing as i thought it would be...
