So among the deductions I have at my non-teaching job, where I'm still on a yearly contract, and considered a "regular" employee, is unemployment insurance.
I'm thinking it'll be impossible to ever collect on it, except for one possible option: taking several months "child care leave" after my paid maternity leave. I'm preparing to go into "discussions" with the company's HR team with a strong request for more leave.
Anyone received payments specifically from unemployment insurance? (not pension) Really curious. |

Not sure whether it even exists in this country and if it does you won't get it as a foreigner. |

I know it exists - if I take "childcare leave" I'll get a whopping 200,000 won a month from it.
I'm just trying to find out if any foreigners have ever collected under other circumstances.
My logic to present to the HR people is to show that unless I take this leave, I'll never be able to collect, like they will, and therefore I should at least take SOME leave.... |

Simone,
I had it deducted from my check last year (I'm on an F2), but have never collected. I have no idea whether your HR department if the right venue to ask about it or not. Personally I'd contact the agency that deducts it (I can't remember what it is called) and ask them.
If you have a legitimate claim, they should in theory allow you to collect. |

It is specifically dependant on your visa status.
IF your employer is your sponsor and you do NOT have residential status without your employment you ARE EXEMPT from paying unemployment insurance. Examples would be E series visas or investors visas (D8 types).
IF your employer is NOT your visa sponsor and you have residential status even if you are NOT working then you must pay into it. An Example would be F2/4/5 series visas here. |
