Anyone seen sour cream for sale? Costco seems to be sold out. Do they get it in often? Know of any other places?
We're hoping to make some Mexican food. |

All of the major grocery stores carry it - E-mart, Lotte Mart etc - the only problem is that it comes in a huge container and there are no smaller sized ones. |

Itaewon of course. The Core Mart store in the street behind Gecko's (=same street as Wolfhound) usually carries 7000-won tubs of "Denmark" brand sour cream. I'm pretty sure the Foreign Food Mart also sells sour cream. |

You can make your own sour cream. This is what my wife and I do; sour cream is unknown in this area of the country, and we've had good luck taking fresh cream and slowly adding lemon juice while stirring. It takes a few minutes, but it's definitely passable. It doesn't have the thick consistency of store-bought stuff, but it's still quite tasty. |

If you strain it a bit it might thicken up. |

Kermo, what did you mean by straining it first? Straining the cream? I guess I don't get how that would help? |

A good substitute is the Denmark plain yogurt. Of course it's not QUITE the same, but it's lighter and healthier! It's great for those times when sour cream just isn't handy. |

I feel a bit left out because I posted about making your own and then deleted by accident. Straining is easy if you place a clean handkerchief in a sieve and pour the cream in and let the water run through it. Leaving you with the thick creamy bit. Then add the lemon juice, mix, and there you have it. |

Does anyone have a picture or description of the Denmark plain yogurt? I tried doing that the other day but I somehow got a vanilla flavored one instead. Doesn't go well with my baked potato. =D |
