Maybe try helping yourself out with warm drinks such as tea. The point is to not make it worse.
Koreans have "YuJa Cha" (Citron tea) which is supposed to be good.
You have nothing to lose. |

Let me guess...
You teach little kids.
The citron tea really does help. Actually, when it comes to cures for small colds and things of this nature, the Koreans really do know what they're doing, in my opinion.
The stuff they use could be natural, herbal or just plain illegal in my home country but it never ceases to fix whatever is making me sick!
I feel for you having to teach in that condition though... especially if the students are really young.

I lost my voice for an entire week. My director was understanding and let me show them English videos that week (Friends). Not the perfect solution I'm sure, but I got to rest it, and the boys loved just watching the episodes. |

+1 on the yuja cha. That stuff's great. One day during my first November here oh those years ago I came in to work and had a helluva sore throat. I could hardly talk. My boss's wife fixed me a glass of yuja cha and, while I wasn't totally better, it did actually help. I haven't been without a jar of the stuff in my fridge since then. |

I've been in the same boat for about the past week. Thing is, if you don't give your voice a rest, it gets worse, not better. I had to give a demo class while I had the flu. That was fun...
I'd take a sick day and use it to make up worksheets for your students (crosswords, wordfinds, etc). Also, utilize your coteacher as much as possible. If you're lucky like me, they'll understand what you're going through and may even take a couple of classes from you.
Don't worry too much. Just tell your kids that your voice is gone and that they will have to be quiet in order to hear you. Unless they're totally evil (which granted, some of mine are!), they should be sympathetic and you may even find that class runs more smoothly when you're not constantly having to "shout." |

Whatever you do....do it soon. My throat got so bad, the ENT doctor was thinking he would have to pull my tonsils. Thank goodness, it healed. Something he recommended was sleep, gargling, and frequent brushing.
But I must also add a nod for the citron tea. Don't forget the honey....nature's most powerful antibiotic. |

I have most of my students write essays today. |

If you lose your voice because of yelling it at the kids/students to be quiet, one method is to use a whistle. It not only saves your voice, but gets the kids attention right away.
May sound goofy, but it works. |
