Does anyone remember the JMS cult (led by Jung Myung-seok)? In Myeong-dong last night, a group of them had set up tables and were trying to get people to sign a petition. Apparently, they want their leader to be extradited to Korea (where he'll no doubt bribe his way out of jail).

And he was literally just down the street from this guy:

As far as I know, no other part of Seoul attracts these types to this degree. Why is that?

Myeong-dong probably has the highest levels and concentration of pedestrian traffic in all of Korea, and the foot traffic is excrutiatingly slow. Lots of people, moving by slowly...increases your exposure? Just a guess.

i think it's obvious that they are there since myungdong also has the largest concentration of foreigners outside itaewon and what makes myungdong so much more worthy of their prsence over itaewon is that the foreigners in myungdong are most often godless chinese and japanese.

In Hongdae, they had the Jesus Mobile out - a car mounted with loudspeakers and covered with crosses and such. Fucking wankers. Why don't they *beep* off, eh?

Crazy fundy lady shouting at catholics after mass. Religion makes you stupid. Fundy religion makes you fundamentally stupid.

I there's a god, I would wager god wants these people in their homes trying to raise their family. Not running around Myeong dong in dresses and shouting at people coming out of a church.

Check out this stupid video. These people are so taken with the holy spirit they're laughing and fall down. At the 30 second mark you can see a guy in a white checked shirt clearly going "oh ummm should I fall down?" He looks down to make sure he's not going to fall on anything and then sort of joins along. As the guy moves to the back row more people seem to join half heartedly and their performance is less than convincing.

And our pith helmet nut bag is in this video:

He's at the 2:45 mark.

The ajumma getting down in her chair is priceless.

Christianity is a cargo cult in Korea.

It's the only thing I can think to explain why Koreans are so keen to learn "bible english". If they really wished to understand the bible, they should be learning ancient greek and ancient hebrew. Koreans, of course, should be very distrustful of Korean translations. I've never heard a bilingual Korean have any praise for Korean translations of books they've read in English. I think it's more, however, Koreans going "ah, this is the white man's religion and they have much cargo. If we show Jesus we're extra keen, you know wearing pith helmets with warnings about hell fire, we'll get the cargo double time.
