What are the prospects of getting a MA Tesol and how hard is it? How would it benefit you in this job field, if at all?

I all ready have a TESOL certificate but am looking to advance my credentials in this job field, depending on the benefits. So far my TESOL certificate has meant nothing. Most jobs don't even ask to see it.

I;m sure it could only help--you could teach ESL in your own country for example. For a hagwan no but but for other jobs and places it would be excellent to have on the cv.

That sounds good. But in the state where I'm from, you still need a teaching certificate to teach ESL. Does anyone here from the states know if this is the same for all the US?

I inquired of teaching ESL in the state I'm from and you had to take all the teaching tests that other teachers must pass. I didn't want the hassle.

That's if you want to teach in public schools, and that's pretty standard across the board. Basically a big hassle if you want to go that route. With an MA TESOL you could maybe work for the state department of education as an ESL consultant / planner / what have you (not too keen on those kinds of jobs but know they exist), or, as you know, work in a CC or uni, in which case you'll be lucky to earn enough to make ends meet. For a two-income home it's doable, though. It seems that the degree is best put to work abroad, if it's cash you're after.

So true.

I have a MA in an unrelated field, and was immediately in the game for university jobs. I'm thinking of a second MA to potentially solidify this kind of career.
