I have some Korean friends who love British comedies and, since this is one of my faves, I'd love for them to be able to watch it more comfortably. Anyone know where I can get the first series with Korean subtitles? |

Good luck with that one!!
I'd say your best chance is for I'm Alan Partridge to be shown on Korean BBC Entertainment channel at some time. Unlikely though.
One thought.......if you teach any high-level students, give them an episode each to translate as a project!! |

Yeah, I know, but a lot of English comedies - like Father Ted, etc - have been translated to hopefully I'm Alan Partridge has been too! Unfortunately, despite teaching at a university, my students would be incapable of translating the series - though that's a nice idea! |

My sentiments exactly. Why would a Korean be even slightly amused at "the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre?"
However, I've met a lot of Koreans who claim to like Abba. |

What are you on about? Some Koreans - very few, I admit - enjoy that kind of programme due to extensive travelling and reading. |

Ok, maybe a few of them might get bits of it, but I generally agree with stevieg4ever. Can't really see the humour coming through too well.... No matter how well travelled or read a person may be, Korean or otherwise, I just can't see them finding the idea of pedestrianising Norwich city centre to be amusing. |

True, but that's just one joke among a million... |

I agree that the dry deadpan humour wouldn't translate well.
"Jet from Gladiators to host Millennium Barn Dance in Yeovil Aerodrome.....properly policed, it must not, repeat, not turn into an all-night rave"
To me that's funny. To most non-Brits it would probably be utterly bemusing.
BTW have you checked out this Facebook group?

Stick to Mr.Bean. You won't even need subtitles. |

Depends what angle of the humour you are pressing for. If you are talking about the horse crapping on the stage or the eating of the cows testicle (both on the show) then maybe. But the real subtle elements would surely be lost on them, travelling or no travelling.
