Just saw Danawa has the 8800GTs by XFX.

Alpha Dog Edition....299.000
Extreme Edition.......340.000
XXX Edition.............360.000

A little lower than I was expecting, but not too much. Still a premium from the prices in the US (if they have one in stock!).

Guys,

Just keep in mind what you are going to use your computer for. Don't get the high end stuff if you aren't going to be gaming much. Furthermore, DON'T GET THE HIGH END STUFF JUST FOR ONE GAME!!!! A lot of people fall into this trap. They want to play just one game and spend hundreds of dollars just to play the one game.

There really isn't that much of a difference between the 8800 series cards unless you REALLY need that extra 4 to 10 frame rate per second (I am talking about the GTX and the XXX). I mean, what is 70 compared to 75 or 80? I don't notice the difference and I still have my 7900GTX card. My games and other games out there aren't absorbing that kind of power...yet. Save a few hundred smackers for when games do come out and you REALLY need the power.

I agree with cl. I'm playing Call of Duty 4 on an 8600GT XXX 256MB (factory o/c) no problem. It's only 125KW these days.

The new wave of DX10 games is upon us. Crysis is only one game but it sets the standard for the future of PC games. Your 8600GT can just about play Crysis but only on the low settings. No high-resolution and eye-candy. The games are only going to get more demanding. Not less demanding.

I'm gagging as I write this because I think I'm going to buy the new 8800GT at 310,000 from Danawa even though it's 269USD (246,000 won) in the USA. 73 dollars cheaper!!

I've been looking at tech reports and benchmarks for days now. I don't think the 8600GT will play next years games at anything but the lowest settings. I know I'd feel frustrated as my games lag, stutter or just look dull.

There's a big difference between playing a game at 35 FPS and 12 FPS!! 12 FPS isn't a game. It's a slide-show!

I agree with you fully eamo. The 8800 cards are much better than the 8600 cards, but at a huge increase in price.

My point was, for a casual gamer the 8600 o/c would be fine. You can still play really recent games and not dump the price of a new xbox 360 on a graphics card.

But yes, if you are looking to play the top-of-the-line games of the future...go ahead and dump 300+ on a card, but I'd wait.

The 8800GT is going to be the new 150KW entry card, just like the 8600GT was last year. IMO the price is going to plummet on these. Then I'm going to buy one for sure.[/u]

Hanguker, Yeah. For the casual gamer the 8600GTS is enough to run all the games at low settings. I tell ya, I was so close to just ordering an 8600GTS last night for 150K. I was feeling bitter at how much more the 8800GT costs in Korea. I didn't want to be shafted.

But I had the same idea as you. I realized that the 8800GT would be only around 200-230K in about 6 months. So, if I get an 8600GTS now, and then upgrade to an 8800GT in 6 months or so, if you do the math, I'll be spending 350,000 won all together.

I think I may as well take the shafting right now and have the card I really want.

Anyway, I've made a rough plan to wait about a week before ordering an 8800GT. The first shipments have just arrived in Yongsan. Not many stores have them yet so they've had no time to adjust the prices. I'm hoping I can get a good one for under 300,000 then.
