I had been lurking here for years, joined not too long ago, and what do you know, I found that subconsciously I had been contributing fairly negatively here. Must be some sort of disease.

So I aim to reconcile that.

This is on the edge of the travel board material, true, but no one seems to visit there...and I just wanted to spread some Korea goodness where most people could see.

I thought I had seen some beautiful Korean countryside in my years here, but never before the sights I saw this past weekend. The wife and I went to a family friend's apple orchard to pick some apples, and the farm was along some amazing scenery. This farm was between Pohang and Andong. We took tons of photos, so obviously I just chose a couple from them.

Back home, the colors on the trees never get this bright...plus it is completely sans mountains (being Iowa). One of the major pluses of Korea to me.

What is the most scenic place you have been to in Korea?

Pagoda Park is wonderful at night, both romantic and enigmatic.

The most scenic parts for me are the twisting backroads of Seoul.

The colors on some of the trees here are magnificent. I've been collecting leaves for a painting project.

Anyway, my pick for the most beautiful scenery is the coast road south from Pohang to I-forget-the-name-of-the-place-where-the-king-is-buried-in-the-ocean.

(BTW, there are quite a few of us Iowa folk here at Dave's. I hope someone remembers to turn out the lights when they leave.)

Last quarter mile stretch right before hitting the departure terminal at Incheon Airport

To me, the leaves here aren't as colourful or as beautiful as at home, but I love the mountains. The drive through Jeolla-do going south is great and better once you reach the coast.

Korea is a pretty little country. It isn't pretty as New Zealand, it isn't as glorious as Canada, the beaches are nothing like those in Thailand, and even the mountains are no match for Japan. Yet Korea is still pretty, like its architecture it tends to be a subtle beauty, yet a very refined one. Of course when you throw rampant modernisation into the mix, it tends to obscure just how pretty and scenic it is. If you live in Seoul it seems like Korea is an endless clutter of grey buildings.

My picks are (in no particular order),

The East Coast, all of it, the second largest tides in the world, a muddy rocky coastline that provides you with wonderful sunsets and shell fish BBQ's. Daechon beach, Doekjoek Island (the yellow islands off incheon), and Amyeon-do

The West Coast, again all of it, pretty ocean, rocky shore line, beaches and sea food.

The mountainous middle, Soraksan, Woraksan, Songnisan, Jirisan...... You can continue all the way from Sokcho down to Chungju and Jeonju weeving in and out of the mountains, all complete with temples, little lakes and rivers and of course great Korean food.

Gangwon Province....the whole thing deserves to be mentioned, beautiful coastal roads, a great pass through the mountains, hot springs, caves, and temples. Soraksan is really quite nice and worth a visit any time of year. Sunrises from the top of mountains, or the coast.

The cultural south, from Andong to Gyeongju, the whole place is like a different Korea. Traditional homes are everywhere and it is the only place in Korea where I enjoy any of the cities (as far as the Architectural mood anyway).

It's really important to lok past the clutter of development to appreciate Korean subtle charm.

I visited korea couple months ago and have visited a relative in Andong, driving through Andong on JungAng HWY, the nature around JungAng Highway constantly reminded me The Smoky Mountain in Tennessee.
When I was in Korea, somehow I never thought country side of Korea is beautiful, but since I live in America I see Korea very different way, Korea is a beautiful country, the nature of country side is very peaceful and charming.

That is the stone walkway from Bulguksa near Gyeongju that leads to a mountain trail up to the Seokoram Grotto. I went on one of the 2 or 3 nice days of my Summer vacation.

상당산성 was fantastic during the summer

속리산 is also very good, up there with 설악산 imo
