Why don't you bring out the clown suit? I am sure the inspectors would love an English Teacher dressed for success.

He he - at our last big school visitation it was completely the opposite (except for the suit part). They had me right by the front door greeting everyone with "Annyeong hashimnika! Ban gahp sum nee da! Naneen Canada saram imnida!" and quickly exhusting any Korean I can remember how to keep in the proper polite forms.

Do you know any other languages? It might be fun to speak to them in French or Spanish just to keep yourself amused through the ordeal.

I know a good amount of Japanese. I'm sure that would go over real well.

"Ohayo Gozaimas. Watashi wa pkang0202 desu. Nihongin desu. Gengki desu ka?"

It would be funny to see if my coteachers/principals go around trying to explain that I'm not a Japanese Native English teacher.

Why are Arabs wishing tidings of peace on a Soviet space dog?

Oh, you mean "alaikum"...

I'd walk around the halls introducing myself to all as Manuel while singing Genesis's "It's no fun being an illegal alien":

But I've got a sister who'd be willing to oblige
She will do anything now to help me get to the outside

Its no fun being an illegal alien, no no no no no

If not, Woody Guthrie's Deportee will do in a pinch.

-Nothing funnier than arguing about the correct spelling of a word in a different alphabet, especially one that doesn't mark short vowels.

You know, every Arab speaker I ever knew just said "Salam" when greeting you.

I once replied "Shalom" and they were like, "Very funny, dude"

I have no idea. I have a couple theories though.

1. School doesn't want to show off their Korean American/Non White "Native" speaker.

2. School doesn't want me to talk to anyone important.

3. School thinks I'll be a distraction for students and other teachers trying to show off.

4. School doesn't want me to see something I shouldn't see.

I can't think of a legitimate reason why I have to be holed up on my office all day. I even suggested to my school that I just not come in. They flat out said no.

One way or another, it'll be interesting to hear the result of it all.
Have you flat-out asked them why you have to hide in the closet?

What I don't get is why you have to dress nice if they are simply going to hide you away. Seems a bit stupid really. If you're being forced to hide, you should be able to wear whatever you want. If they ask you to dress nice, it should be because they want people to see you. Asking you to dress nice, but hide, is just plain ridiculous!

Pssst ... OP ... you can come out now.

How did your day in solitary go? Did you find out the reason for it - or is everyone too busy smiling at you in apreciation for doing as told and for NOT wearing those summer shorts you mentioned in a previous post.

Still stuck here. The people doing the inspections are walking around checking out the after school programs.

They had me wear a suit, just in case someone made a wrong turn and opened my office door. I just spent 3 hours in my office playing Starcraft on my laptop.

Perhaps they're getting more funding by marking you down for longer hours than you actually work. If that's the case, it's rather nice of them to lock you in your office only when the inspectors come, and not every day, like some schools might.

I've found that usually there is a reason--not a great one, but probably someone else's neck is on the line if you mess up, and you never know when you might want that person to help you out of a rough spot.

Another day spent browsing the net or reading, woohoo. If they allowed me to bring in my paints and watercolour pad I'd be quite happy, but you're expected to maintain the "appearance of work" for hours on end.
