This video is too cute not to share. Perhaps many have already seen it.

I was thinking that our wonderful president would be a perfect example for students to see... of how not to speak in public.

Also thought it might give them a bit more confidence in their own English skills.

This one would be pretty hard for students to understand...maybe you could find a better one?

I've used Bushisms in class with limited success...works better with adults, as younger students wouldn't understand most of the vocab.

Yea, the English is too complicated and the humor is far over their heads but it looks like you just want to have a big anti-Bush circle jerk with a pretense of teaching.

Using a video of Bush to show language mistakes isn't bashing Bush (though you should do that, too). It's showing that even high-ranking people have a hard time speaking English. If you are teaching advanced students, make a hand out with the exact thing that sorry sack of crap says, then show the correct way to say it and add some other notes when necessary.

The baby in that video makes it funny enough to show just for lower level student laughs. If you have a translator/co-teacher in your class, have them help you explain the problem to lower levels. Simply showing that English is difficult may make them feel better, even if they don't understand what the exact grammar problems are.

I'm already doing that. I've told my older students about "is the children learning?" and "I hear there are rumours on the internets"...

They love it. I have yet to meet a Bush-supporting Korean.

I think students are already aware that people in high ranking positions make gafs. They run a show on Korean TV which highlights the gafs that Korean politicians make. (there are quite a few)

NO Tony Balony, I'm not out to slam Bush in Korea.

I teach high school students who have quite the sense of humor and love seeing Bush on TV in some kind of spoof. Do they understand the majority of the language in this video...? Definitely not...

That's where an actual lesson plan comes in...

No Spliff, it's not an utterly retarded idea. It's my idea which you can like or dislike and no, I don't despise President Bush. I don't agree with everything he's done, but I did not vote for Gore or Kerry in the last two elections.

I think he's an appalling public speaker but I don't think he's an idiot. I love his mistakes and so do the students in my school... especially the boys.

They often tend to say "sorry teacher, I'm having a Bush moment" when they make mistakes or say something ridiculous. I think it's great that they can laugh at themselves.
