Quote:
An appeal court in Saudi Arabia has doubled the number of lashes and added a jail sentence as punishment for a woman who was gang-raped.

The victim was initially punished for violating laws on segregation of the sexes - she was in an unrelated man's car at the time of the attack.

When she appealed, the judges said she had been attempting to use the media to influence them.

The attackers' sentences - originally of up to five years - were doubled.

Someone should suicide bomb these fuckers.

200 lashes? How can a woman withstand that? How can anyone withstand that? I'm assuming they can't all be administered at the same time. The whole story is disgusting. Isn't being gang raped enough "punishment" for violating Saudi's strict sex segregation laws??

That's horrible. But at least it wasn't like Taliban-era Afghanistan where if a woman wanted to denounce a rapist, she needed to secure four eyewitness reports to the crime (under Sharia law I suppose?)

Wasn't there a thread recently about how the situation is improving for women? Vissicide I think? Is she a bloody convert?

200 lashes at one time would kill a person. They will probably spread it out over years and years.

Here is a vid of the damage to the human body this barbaric (would we expect anything less from fundamentalist tards?) practice.

I am not defending their law (in fact, I oppose it) but she DID break it.

I disagree however that her sentence should have been doubled for having the gall to appeal.

I am told I should try to understand Islamic and Arab culture and to be sympathetic to thier systems for the sake of world peace.

I have a glimmer of understanding and based on that they have a vile and reprehensible system.

I'm going to point out the obvious. Societies controlled and run entirely by men just aren't cool.

Who are you to judge Saudi culture? The women are far more feisty than Western women, who are slaves to fashion and the lustful whims of men, having to tart themselves up in miniskirts and hotpants. The burkha, rather than being a black tent of male oppression, liberates a women from the lustful glare of the male, so that she may go about her daily business unmolested.

Islam is a religion of peace etc.

That's the understatement of the month. More like societies of this ilk are pathetic and repulsive.

Arab men really have a lot of insecurities if they can't acknowledge the rights of women. Even the so-called enlightened Gulf States operate by double-standards of law.

The Arab world will never be truly great--or even economically strong--until its men allow for their better half to contribute in broader and more meaningful ways.
