A: Three. One to screw in the bulb, and two to listen to him brag about the screwing part. |

Most feminists don't care a toss what Andrea Dworkin says. |
Sorry to stray from discourse, but
She really doesn't look pleasant. |
And here you remind me why we still need feminism. If it was a picture of a famous intellectual guy (taken in his middle age) who didn't look so hot, would you bother to comment? When Milton Friedman or Normal Mailer were topical on this forum, no-one thought to discuss their physical appearance. Are women only worth listening to depending on their level of sexual attractiveness? Is a woman's worth measured by her sexual appeal? Sadly, I think it still is, even now in the 21st Century.
One day, when you are an old man, and you have a daughter in her 40s or 50s, will you still think it so cool to hear people denigrating your beloved child for not looking so hot? Will you feel sad when you realise that the daughter you cherished is no longer valued by society because her sexual appeal has dimmed?
Here is a picture of her as a young woman:

your discourse has total merit.
on a superficial level, an ugly woman has no place in the eyes of the average man.
on a deeper level, achieved through relationship and time, the ugliest woman can transform herself into the prettiest of them all in the eyes of a man.
on a superficial level you are right. and it sucks to be ugly in that kind of world.
but on a deeper level, men ultimately prefer brains.
i think it would be wise for men to keep their mouths shut until a deeper level is reached. |

You reminded me of another joke:
Q: Why do men like smart women?
A: Opposites attract.
Sorry, couldn't resist that one. |

I don't agree with at least 75% of the feminist theories out there. But more than anything, I object to traditional subservient roles to which women have been subjected to in Western and Asian cultures. And I also strongly object to the sex discrimination, harassment and objectification of women that is so prevalent in Western and Asian societies today. |
They essentially fall into two, almost diametrically opposed strains: gender feminism and equity feminism. I haven't read the original study and the OP fails to distinguish between the two so, until further clarification, I find the results meaningless.
On a lighter note, why did God create women?
Because sheep can't cook! |

Hey, don't shoot the messenger here! I had a feeling someone was going to try to bite my head off. Let's play around with semantics a bit. I said "She doesn't look pleasant" where I really meant that she doesn't portray an outward look of being a nice person (and based on what I have read about her, she doesn't come off as a nice person at all). It's quite different from saying "She is not pleasant to look at" which can be construed as a negative reaction based exclusively on her looks (which was not my intention at all).
Which makes me wonder if I were a woman and made that comment would it get less of a rise out of people? If you got a chip on yer shoulder, I like to not be the one to get burnt here, okay? |

Except you are talking absolute bollocks. Look at the picture again:
How can you tell from this picture anything about her character? The camera has snapped her opening her mouth to talk. You can not see any indication of her mood or demeanor.
You are squirming, wriggling, and talking absolute bollocks, mate. |

I stand by what I say and that is all that I will say. I acknowledge the way I see her in the picture is highly subjective. You want to make an objective evaluation of her demeanor with a non-existing science, fine, exhaust yourself for all I care. I know I sure won't. No need to resort to personal attacks either.
You really do have a chip on your shoulder. Sheesh.
I have just lost heaps of respect for you. |

Big Chick chirped:

| Yes, I consider myself a feminist, and have a rather dim view of (most of) the women I meet who say they are not |
You come across as a feminist with a lowercase 'f,' as I would describe myself. What I resent are strident feminists, the radical fringe, who mask hatred for men in this identity tag, making it more an ideology than a way of life. They sacrifice femininity for feminism--as if a woman can only have one or the other (unless, of course, they're lesbians).
I strongly suspect that one thing attracting so many Western men to Asian women is the latter's willingness to balance these qualities, and to do so without resorting to brash displays of indignation.
Tani Barlow, a feminist historian of Chinese feminism, has written extensively on an emerging field of feminist study--the educated Asian woman whose interpretation of what it means to be a feminist is often at variance with what Western women too often view as a universal trait.
Few things, however, are more attractive to me than a smart woman who holds her own and still loves holding my manpower, if you get my drift.
