|
|
Despite propaganda to the contrary, the IAEA has found no evidence that Iran has violated the NPT or has a nuclear weapons program.
According to a report the IAEA released today, they have been allowed to interview Iranians, inspect and monitor Iran's nuclear facilities. They have been given documentation which backs up Iran's claims about their peaceful nuclear program and corresponds with their observations and investigations.
The report is here:

While the IAEA has not been able to prove Iran does not have a cladestine nuclear weapons program, they have also found no evidence which indicates that Iran might even have a nuclear weapons program.
Meanwhile, China has pulled out of meetings to impose sanctions on Iran until Iran is able to prove a negative.

The IEA missed Saddam's nuclear program in the late 1980's.
Here is a more objective view.
Quote: |
VIENNA, Austria -- The U.S. called for new sanctions against Iran after a U.N. report Friday that said the Tehran regime generally has been truthful about key aspects of its past nuclear activities, but is continuing
to enrich uranium.
The International Atomic Energy Agency also said restrictions the Iranians put on U.N. inspectors two years ago mean it still cannot rule out that Iran has a secret weapons program, as suspected by Washington and its allies.
The U.N. acknowledged, however, that the agency remained blind on Iran's present work with new and more modern enrichment technologies that would allow it to enrich uranium at far greater speed and volume than with the outmoded machines the agency is monitoring. |

Yeah, you'll have to forgive me if I trust them a wee bit more than the Bush Administration. |

The UN was on Saddam's payroll. I don' t know why you ought to trust them at all. |

Not in the late 80's.
Besides Saddam would have rearmed were he not contained. Not that the UN cared since they did nothing to contain Saddam. |

Not in the late 80's Joo because whatever nuclear program Saddam EVER really had was destroyed by the Israeli's in 1981...
Further, he couldn't rearm after the Iranian war because he was already up to his eyeballs in debt! That's why he invaded Kuwait was because of the wealth in it's vast oil fields..... |

but the facts will show that Saddam was infact close to a nuclear weapon before the gulf war .
He wanted Kuwait for the reason you said but that was not the only reason. Down on Saddam's list was also a desire to break the power of the west by controlling gulf oil. |
