I'm sure this topic has come up before but who would you pick as your most "memorable" student, whether good or bad. The executive editor of Black Belt magazine spent four years in Korea doing martial arts research, and he told me that one student always wanted to talk about sex and was nicknamed "SD" for "sexual desire." He also told one female student that because she was so ugly, she should kill herself.

I'm sure a bunch of interesting stories will follow.

The army colonel who came to my old hagwon with a month to learn conversational English (Rolling Eyes) because the military was sending him to France to learn to fly some new state of the art helicopter and the lessons would be conducted solely in English. The classes descended into therapy however as he completely took over the conversation and spent the best part of a month revealing the gruesome details of all the people he'd killed in car crashes. Shocked
Hope he was a more successful helicopter pilot. Razz

Technically not a student but I had an intern once who on her first day got so drunk at our after-work boozing session that she threw up on my shoes, then whispered in my ear how she'd "apologize" for it later in the night.

It was the most "hard-felt" apology ever. Evern shined my shoes in the morning. Wink

I love seoul traders posts. They are always so interesting. (not being sarcastic)
One of my most mememorable students was a girl named soo-ji. She was tiny, ever so clever and afraid of the water. At times a little sullen, but really one of the most intelligent students i ever had. I still feel bad that i called her soju in my first week.

my most memorable student is 3 year old with chubby cheeks. He is a real monkey but I love the way he always comes up and has this little earnest speech in korean to me everyday.

However the attempted ddongchim I could live without.

One of my first students in Discussion class was a full-blown Raelian -- the cult that believes humans were created using alien DNA, as told to some French journalist on top of a volcano 30 years ago. I did my absolute best to avoid anytalk touching on religion, biology, or, obviously, aliens... On Mondays, she'd always tell me about her weekends in Seoul handing out copies of the "Message" to passers-by, before not-so-subtly asking me what religion I was.

Fortunately she's long-gone... perhaps back to the homeworld?

I think this says more about the teacher than it does about the student. Classy guy.

Onion man. The funniest chap I've ever had. Middle schooler. Built like a brick shit house. But very likable. I've still got him. Walking into that classroom everyday is like a breath of fresh air.

One day we're sitting at the table and he's at the back. Up comes a hand. And I swear I didn't teach him this. He speaks up... "Masturbation."

"What" I say.

"Masturbation." This gets beeped... Well the word involves violating yourself...

"How on God's Earth did you learn that..."

He doesn't speak a lot of English but he goes over, grabs a dictionary and shows me.

Well thank you Onion man... I am glad you know that...

Mine was a kid who obviously had ADH he used to run around the class singing, climbing over chairs, desks etc he really used to annoy the other kids but we all tolerated him because it was quite obvious he couldn't control himself and meant no harm.
Anyways one day whilst i wasn't looking he was setting his shoe on fire in the gas heater....he leapt up and ran out of the class, came back soaking wet and stinking of burnt hair! He had set his hair on fire and had no frindge and very little eye brows left.....I almost peed my pants
