Hello,
I was informed by China Southern Airlines that I need a transit visa ($100.00) to change planes enroute to Manila through Beijing. I went to the Chinese Consulate in Pusan and they confirmed it.
I'll only be in Beijing for two hours, but the consulate insists that Americans and UK citizens must pay the transit fee.
Are there any Americans or Brits who can tell me if they've experienced the same thing? Having gone through Hong Kong many times, this was never the case. Nor with Tokyo, Manila, Taipei, etc.
I think the Americans are doing this to non-waiver countries, which is fair, but to UKS? Just wondering.

Americans have to have a visa for transit through China. I'm not sure about UK citizens. |

PDXSTEVE,
Didn't realize you had posted, sorry for the delay in answering, if it helps. I went to the Chinese consulate in Pusan and got my transit visa. It cost 100,000 WON. I will be in Beijing for a couple of hours, but Americans and British Nationals must pay this fee. If you are travelling through Shangai, it's not necessary for any nationality.
It sucks, but the Americans are now doing it too, so I guess what comes around goes around. |
