Why is this? Almost 8 months down in Yongin and it's boring as hell here.....The only plus in Yongin is that when you depart Seoul for the day there are less people on the footpath.......Wonder why? |

I took the road less traveled by, and that has made all the difference... |

Who told you that? I think that most people feel that Seoul is much easier for a noob. More English, western food, more foreigners..
It seems that it is the more experienced teachers that have had enough of Seoul and venture out to more obscure places. |

It means from what I heard it is too difficult, too full-on, too over-bearing, dramatic, extreme, daunting for various reasons that I have heard from people......
If anyone knows anything more and why....please inform me as to why this stigma exists.... |

I would like to be in Seoul as there are more foreigners and much more Western food, and more things to do.
But I save more money being out here in the country.... |

Depends which way of life you are from.
I did one year down south in the sticks. Loved coming to Seoul every now and then but wouldn't have traded the experience of teaching in an out of the way place. Also made my experience in Seoul this year so much better as I've seen a lot of Korea from my year down south and a year in Anyang.
When you start in seoul it's easy to go out drinking every weekend and never see much of the country. When I was down south I always travelled around. I did also do the drinking on the weekend too in the nearish by city.
I think everyone should at least spend a year teaching outside of Seoul if they plan on spending more than say a year or two here. |

I've never heard that stigma, in fact moreso the opposite. |

I thought most newbies started out in Seoul. I am definitely in a rural region so I kind of thought of myself as bucking the trend. ^^ |

I'm glad I started out in Seoul. I feel the sort of "half-Korean" experience I got there was a good way of getting my feet wet, preapring me to enjoy my newer experiences out in the sticks. It's good to have the flexibility to do both, and the rural schools deifintely accomodate you much better in pay, housing, even hours sometimes.
Having said that, I want to move back to Seoul next contract, or at the very least Busan. I've been a small towner my whole life, and my first taste of city life in Seoul has left me wanting more. |

Some recruiters say they because they have a hard time getting new teachers to go to other places.
I would always recommend starting in Seoul. Much more foreign friendly. |
