In this sport, anyone can beat anyone, even the million to one underdogs... all it takes is a split second of less-than-100%-focus and a lucky shot. Serra wasn't close to a million-to-one underdog, but GSP could probably beat Serra 99 times out of 100. GSP got caught sleeping and Serra took advantage. It's how Hughes lost and Liddel and Couture. One punch and clean up the rest.

I disagree...

GSP had Hughes number that fight. It was NOT a flash knockout. He was dominated for the whole fight.

Liddel has lost it... I thought that rampage had his number until the dean of mean took him out too. He is not the same fighter anymore.

Randy didnt just lose to chuck once, it was twice. After the first fight chuck figured him out.

i think the dude was talking about serra knocking out gsp as being a flash. no question hughes was dominated by gsp, i don't think anyone would dispute that... in fact, so much that i don't even care to see them fight again. i'd rather see bj penn fight gsp again.

randy cut a good 40lbs to fight chuck, and don't forget he destroyed chuck once, too. no way in hell chuck could go to heavyweight and do what randy did... but that's part of coutures greatness. hope he and fedor can fight before couture turns 50.

have to say, i am very disappointed chuck's game fell so suddenly. i hope it's just his training and focus and he can get back on track for another year. if silva takes him out the way rampage and jardine did, it would be time to hang it up, no doubt about it.

I thought it was a "lucky" shot that sent him down in the first place. Maybe I'm thinking of a different fight. We old people have memory problems.

My point is that it doesn't have to be a knockout punch, just a shot that sends you unexpectedly to the mat, off-balance, and scrambling to get back to your feet, all while the opponent wades in for the kill. That's exactly what happened to GSP. Serra caught him napping, arms windmilling to get back to his feet, and Serra took advantage. Skills-wise, Serra was outclassed. Easily. But that one punch evened things up enough for him to assert dominance for the rest of the (short) match.

I agree that Randy dominated the first fight, but chuck made the adjustments and I think if they would have fought another 5x the same result would have happened (and I think Randy knew it too, and that is why he retired the first time)

I hope he can spring back as well, but he is not young and somewhat one dimensional. If Silva chases him I think Chuck will knock him out, if Silva plays a more strategic fight he will win. I am still rooting for chuck though.

Well, GSP had him hurt at the end of the first (and I think if he had another 30 seconds he would have put him away). He had dominated the whole first round (Hughes couldnt take him down).. it didnt take GSP long to take him out in the second.

agreed, I dont think GSP was very dedicated to training (was playing the celeb card too much, with too many guest appearances)

That's gonna be an AWESOME fight. I'm really looking forward to UFC 79: Hughes v. Serra and Liddell v. Silva? Hell yeah!

I'm hoping the Iceman can recover before 79, though. I was really surprised that Jackson just rolled over him, and then Jardine. . . damn. I'd like to see Chuckie make more of a solid stand this time.

Just finished watching UFC's Greatest Knockouts 1 & 2... Now I'm stoked to see Serra get pounded, and see another KO in the Silva/Liddell match. No way S/L goes the distance.
