What are some good movies regarding expats, or the theme of being in an unfamiliar land away from home?
I ask for one because, well, I'm heading over to Busan for my first overseas job, and I want to see movies that have explored the topic. I also read an article by Rolf Potts (travel writer who taught ESL in Korea) about a Korean who made a movie about expats. THe article is here:

So, what are some good expat movies? |

The only one I can think of right now is The Beach with Leo Dicapprio.
A lot of people didn't like it, but I loved it and it actually motivated me back in University to work and travel overseas. |

I don't think that Expats movie was ever made. It sounded like wankery to me anyway, trying to romanticise the ESL industry. |

I enjoyed "Lost In Translation" with Bill Murray. It is about an actor that travels to Japan to shoot a commercial. I wouldn't say hilarity ensues, but for me, it hit some familar chords. I would recomment that one. |

What happened to that one movie called, "The English Teacher," that came out about 1 year ago? I have been looking for that, but couldn't find it anywhere. A thread on Daves showed me a trailer for it last December, but I never seen anything more.
I have been looking myself to learn more in detail about other people's experiences abroad. I know only a tiny % of everyone ever go abroad, but those that do are interested in hearing about the adventures, challenges, and advice on traveling abroad. |
