Did any public school teachers out there get denied salary raises to the next level due to being mid-way through a contract?

How easy was it for you to get your contract changed?

My school won't do it. Not sure if my co-teacher got that straight from my district however.

Is this ecause you now have a TESL/CULTA or such like certificate or just because you fancied a payrise?

I'd watch out. My friend got a salary rise in the middle of the contract without it being in an amended contract. They realised that he shouldn't have got it so took back the money after three months even though it wasn't his fault and there was nothing he could do about it.

I think it's easier to wait until contract renewal and getting the raise then, which I think if you're renewing you'll be bumped up a level and also get a 100 000 raise included for staying with the same school.

A mid contract raise can be messy. Unless they definately want to give it to you.

I got mine a couple months back: no ammended contract (though I'm thinking I should have one now...)

It states, at least in the GEPIK contract, that if you're due the payraise because of completing a TESOL/TEFL than you will receive the raise the month after completion.

I work for a public school and received a salary bump mid-contract after sending a copy of my TEFL certificate and letter of completion to the education office (SMOE). Send your stuff in as soon as you finish!

If you are GEPIK and qualify mid contract for a bump up because of certification you are entitled to it beginning the month after you show your certification.

Article 8 Sub 9 of the current GEPIK contract reads:

9. If Employee obtains further qualifications such as a Masters degree or TESOL certificate with over 100 course-hours during the contract term, the elevation of the level and raise in salary, if applicable, may take place from the following month as of the completion date. However this shall be limited to the next one level per year.

I did NOT see a similar clause in the EPIK contract.

Yep, I think that's why it's more difficult to get an amendment with the EPIK contract than the GEPIK. Well spotted boss.

After getting a TESOL certification, I have been denied a pay raise on the grounds that I am already a Level 1. Considering that Level 1 salaries can rise with re-signing, do you think I deserve a raise now due to increased qualifications?

I don't think that their are any 1+ pay levels here in Korea.

I'm not in GEPIK. What's a Level 1 making for GEPIK these days?

If you're deserving, I don't see why they would keep it from you. I know if you jump up with quals. they have no choice, but if you're at level 1 already, then it might be up to your school (hopefully someone can prove me wrong here, but that's what it seems like at least...)
