Hey...

I just got this idea. Why don't we make some kind of place on the internet where public school teachers (those who teach in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools) all share the materials they make with each other. I constantly make things like flashcards, quizzes, tests, crosswords, game sheets, etc.

I think all elementary schools in Korea share the same text books (you know, the ones with Zeeto, Jinho, etc.). But I am not sure. I work in Gyeonggi-do, and am thinking at least the Gyeonggi-do teachers do. So I think we could all pool together our ideas and stuff... adding to perhaps, better teaching with more materials. Is anyone else out there interested in doing this? We could just make something where we upload small files, and share files... could be good.

Good idea? Would anyone use this?

I think a lot of teachers don't want to share material that they make because they feel like other people will just free load and not contribute anything. It's a good idea in theory, and I think Ddeubels Ning Classroom site is a good start, but it's kind of hard to get the ball rolling and get a lot of teachers to participate.

SMOE teachers do have such a website, but it is restricted access to SMOE foreign teachers. Sorry EPIKs and GEPIKs.

http://www.esnips.com//web/SMOElessonplans/

for SMOE and it is open to the public (unlike the other one that is a private thing).

and this one is a public elementary school in Gyeonggi with lots of supplimentary stuff to go with the Step/jump and regular curriculum. The links at the top right of the page (noraebang) and left of the top banner
(Gyo shil yong ah) have extra stuff for your students to use at home or in the classroom.

You bring up a good issue.

I started my first site, www.ddd.batcave.net over a year ago with the idea of just sharing some / a few resources with fellow teachers. Now it's grown.

But I find that not a lot of teachers really share. Not dissing them but just a fact. Something we must consider and it has been a reality check for me. EFL Classroom gets 500 + hits a day but few teachers ever register or post.

All this has got me thinking about "community" as a Web 2.0 concept. I really think that it is nice and idealistic to have everything "free" and "open" but also without some kind of "belonging" or ownership, the forum/site goes to the dogs.....Even just something as simple as having users register to use materials creates some kind of "responsibility" for the materials and forms community.

So I'm closing the free Batcave and as of the weekend, to use the resources or have access to the directories of games/books etc.....students or teachers will have to register.

But icnelly does a great job with the Karaoke!! A great tool so underused in the classroom....

I personally loathe using the internet for lesson planning, not that the stuff I've used is no good, it's just the time spent trawling through page after page of inappropriate stuff gets me down. Having said that, I'm very much in favour of contributing in some capacity if I can. It'd be nice to have somewhere to dip into quickly for those little 5-minute filler gems that work so well.

I've a good selection of books (about 15 of which are from the Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers series) which I posted from back home about 4-months ago that have just showed up and which have made my day-to-day prepping so much quicker and, more importantly, have given my lesson plans that all important sparkly factor.

I'd be happy to share some of the stuff I use that works here, however, any down time I get should be spent on my Masters rather than on here typing, but I'd be happy to post up any ideas that work well. Incidentally, I just yesterday received the Using Authentic Video in the Classroom book actually, has some good idea in and which I'll be test piloting this week so I may post up any ideas that work towards the end of the week.
