i can understand it aint the best mex on earth...but at least it tries to be authentic.

dos tacos..man...the place is just so bland and overpriced. especially the al pastor (or adobada) taco...i mean, its good, but 3000 won?!?!?! i'd need 4 or 5 to feel full (i'm used to eating 3 for $2. those things are small) and the burritos are all 90% rice.

the potato burrito is ok, but thats more like a breakfast burrito to me...which is very, very, very american mex.

i'd like to go to on the border but the prices and atmosphere scare me away - too much like a family restaurant. im from a place where $3.50 gets you a pound and a half burrito filled with only carne asada, guacamole, and pico de gallo.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: best mexican food (in terms of price and value0 in korea are to be had at the kebab places in itaewon...it isn't even mexican food but it's still more accurate than most of these places!!!

but i'm off the hongdae topic i'm afraid...and most of the meals i've had in hongdae have been the late night samgyupsal fests with the punk crew, back when i used to be an all-nighter.

Is it just me, or is the beef taco not really beef? Something odd tasting about it.

wouldn't know, man...only tried the beef burrito and couldn't taste it through all the rice! it's much like taco taco chili chili, or whatever the hell that place is called, in that regard. i'll try a taco (which i HOPE would be without rice) next time.

however, i can recommend once again the al pastor (it's pork) taco. the sauce they serve with it is authentic (and spicy) and it's very tasty. but a small, small snack it is.

seriously though, i've never, ever had good beef in mexican food here other than urbano's in gangnam..and that was just OK, not great. well, ok, casa loca was passable too, but at their prices i should be eating filet mignon.

that said, i think i've eaten at every mexican place in seoul other than panchos (which has near unanimous bad reviews) and on the border.

On the Border is worth the extortionate price from time to time. Reminds me I have some coupons for free margaritas there.

All the punks have been going to lousy barbecue joints lately. I'm not that poor that I need to pay 1500 w per serving.

The RMT is the best restaurant.

I was utterly dissapointed with Shanti when I went there a couple of months back. The worst Indian/Nepalese food I've ever consumed. I recommend not going there.

What did you order? I go to Shanti's all the time.

There is a better Indian restaurant over on the 'other side' of HongDae. Back in that alley that extends from FF/Go-Gos Bar.

I can't remember exactly but the meal involved vegetable pakuras (far too oily and overcooked), a couple of vegetable curries (all sauce, no substance, minimal flavour and left a sickly feeling in the stomach), a couple of naan breads (these were okay), some rice (it was rice) and kingfisher beers (which tasted green...had they been left out in the sun?).

Perhaps they make better meat dishes?

I walked out feeling worse than when I entered.

And yes...there are some good Indian restaurants in Seoul. I don't think this is one of them.
