Just been informed that the mainboard on my laptop is dead. I ve had my baby for about 4 years. Did she die prematurely? If not, what are my options? How do you guys get dispose of your loved ones.

I had a Compaq/Hp Nx7000 that never failed til now.

Yeah motherboards can really burn out and its expensive to replace them. Hell, I've had motherboards go after 2 years. So be thankful. A new mother board will run you nearly the price of a new laptop (low end). And odds are that low end laptop will be faster than the 4 year old sucker you're trying to fix.

Pop out the HDD and put it in an external case (I assume you want to save your data).

Throw the rest away. Get a new computer.

New desktop systems can be had for about 400k (monitor included) and entry/mid level laptops for about twice that (~800k).

Fly to Bangkok.

Go to Area 52 at Panthip Plaze.

Give them your notebook and come back in 2 days. If it can be fixed they will fix it.

If it's fucked then they won't charge you anything.

You get a holiday to Thailand out of it as well.

formatted it a few days ago, so nothing lost.

Ill probably go looking to see whats new these days. THe last time I bought a laptop; centrino's were the new things on the market.
So, whats the new thing that are a necessity for laptops these days?

Asus EEE PC

it should arrive in korea for the new year.
Estimated price is between 200-300,000 won.

why the delay?

1) Not enough machines to fill the demand
2) they are changing the keyboard to allow korean characters.
