Ok, I usually dont get into this kind of online behavior. But, after I read this I was pissed off. Maybe from a combination of things like the new supposed E2 rules, the news media with pictures of REAL teachers then stating that 106 PS teachers do not have degrees or was it the third time we had to submit out degree information to the BOE or the FIVE altercations I have had with drunk Koreans this month over my Asian GF who IS NOT KOREAN? Or maybe my friend getting arrested because he had a bottle of soju in his pocket on the train and a Very drunk Korean got angry screamed at him called the police and THEN tried to hit him in the police station. He then got released while they held my friend for an hour before releasing him.
Ok, rant is over!
My disclaimer- I do like Korea have had a good life here for the most part. I do not hate Koreans. I do have many GOOD Korean friends.
Also, maybe I am a bit annoyed because my GF is headed home because she really really really doesnt like it here or like Korean etc.
Anyway here is the article.

Despite bogus degrees, Kim cleared
November 17, 2007
Saying Dankook University hired Kim Ock-rang as a professor because of her experience and not her degrees, the Seoul Central District Court yesterday found her not guilty of submitting bogus academic credentials.
Kim, 62, the chief executive and owner of the DongSoong Art Center, got her undergraduate degree from a diploma mill in the United States.
Dankook University chose her based on her experience and expertise, and the school did not examine her degrees when she was hired, the courts ruling said. It is difficult to rule that she interfered with the schools appointment process just because she submitted documents indicating bogus degrees.
Kim got her bachelors degree from Pacific Western University, then earned masters and doctoral degrees at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.
After it was confirmed in August that Pacific Western is a diploma mill, Kims Sungkyunkwan degrees were cancelled. Dankook University then fired her from her job as an art management professor.
On the resume she submitted to Dankook, Kim also wrote that she graduated from Kyunggi Girls Middle and High Schools and Ewha Womans University. She later admitted she did not attend those schools.
The prosecution will file an appeal, said Lee Myeong-jae, senior prosecutor at the Seoul Central Public Prosecutors Office.
The court ruled that she was not guilty because she did not interfere with the schools business. But according to the law, a suspect can be punished when there is a possibility the suspects actions interfere with business, Lee said.
Kim, one of the most influential figures in the Korean art world, told Yonhap News yesterday she will study in Japan next year to earn real degrees in museum studies.

| yep, how nice, going to study in japan to get real degrees. she's already 62, you know, how can you really harm her future in any meaningful way? she's already near retirement age. maybe they decided to wait until now to out her. |

She must be a beauty since they're getting that angry that often. It's like a backhanded compliment they're giving you.

That's just wacky. Did she do something wrong? Yes. Whether it affects the school's business or not is a whole other matter.
Reminds me of the student who asked if I would excuse her attempt to cheat because it didn't help her on the exam. |

It all depends on who you know, not what you have.....
She must know alot of high-ranking Yangbon-types (considering her age) that it allowed her to get away with it....
I knew a Canadian guy that was teaching there totally on private tutoring jobs for a while and was once arrested because someone turned him in. All he had to do was to make a call to "a friend" and not only was he released, but the police officer that arrested him lost his job and the person that accused him was arrested and was being sued with the help of the person he called.......the powers of networking, it has its advantages...... |

Must be foreigner specific. I watched in awe as some korean drunk ass polished off three bottles of Korean wine on the KTX. It was that wine that comes in bottles shaped like a bunch of grapes. He also put away 4 or 5 of those rancid sausage things.
No one said anything about that. The smell of those sausages are a crime in itself. |

| It's ok to be a complete fraud as long as it doesn't effect the schools business....what a joke! Just how does her being found out a fraud and being highly publicized in the media NOT hurt the school and it's business? The judicial system is highly corrupt! |

| Don't they sell soju on the KTX? Now, if he was drinking booze on the subway train, that'd be a different story. |

they push carts up and down the aisles of trains selling beer. |
I realize that, but as one person above said, he was nabbed for drinking soju on the train. |

Will Immigration allow any foreigner who gets busted with a fake degree go to Japan for a year to get a real degree?
In light of this news, the whole Immigration rule tightening on foreigners is an utter farce.
I'm gonna forge my diploma and criminal record, and also forge the notary and Apostille (even though I will have real backups of all those). Just to have the satisfaction of knowing I am in some small way f*cking with the racist farce that calls itself the Korean Government.
