The Medical checks it seems are becoming the latest thorn in the bum for applicants coming to Korea.
People from different parts of the world are experiencing different obstacles and being quoted different prices to get them done.

The UK teachers are having great difficulty in getting them done in the one place, having to go to a doctor and then to a hospital. Most places will not include a chest X ray in a general check up...and when they do find a place..they get told it will take months to do it!

Canadian teachers are being quoted up to US$400!!!!!

USA teachers are finding that their insurance does not cover such an exam. They are also getting quoted in the hundreds!

Australians are having to go all over the place and pay high prices.

Those in Korea are finding it difficult to find English speaking doctors to do the ENTIRE check.

I was hoping that some people could post any advice for Medical checks done in their country.
We don't need experiences of failure or frustration.
We would like to know if you were able to get it completed and done cheaply.

We would like posts for:

USA ( as many states as possible)
CANADA ( as many provinces as possible)
AUSTRALIA ( as many states as possible)
UK ( as many cities as possible)
IRELAND ( as many cities as possible)
SOUTH AFRICA (as many major cities as possible)
NEW ZEALAND ( Both North and South Island) and no sheep jokes!

So,
Country:
City/province:
Cost:
Duration of completion:
Doctor's Office/Hospital name:
Address/contact:

I am sure there are hundreds of people needing help on this matter.
Thanks in advance.

That's BS! Teachers who have medical insurance should not be paying $400 for a check up. Before a medical check up was about $20 MAX now it looks like they want to bleed the foreigners.

From the American end, I just don't get it.

Tell them to try another doctor or hospital.

I can see it costing another $100... but $400 for the x-ray? In Canada, world of cheap health care?

Wow... have things changed that much?

Sounds to me like they're paying $100 for the check and x-ray, plus $300 in bribe money to get the evidence of cannabis removed? Laughing

I bet those illegals on tourist visa numbers are gonna skyrocket real soon.... and some of us will have the pick of side jobs.

In any case, this should cut down on the backpackers (on E-2s, anyway) and dead-enders who show up with no money, a plane ticket from the boss, and $30,000 in student loans due.

The next few months are really going to be interesting!

This info is for American Veterans that go to Korea to teach......

~~ The VA primary care providers ARE able to schedule all the necessary parts to the exam and will sign off on it. And if you need to get it done in a hurry, make that known in the initial consult and it is better to get it done at the branch hospitals than at the main facilities.

And while in Korea, you are able to go to the VA facilities on Guam if you feel more confortable having major treatment done there than in one of the many Korean general hospitals......just keep your VA health card.....

Well, after thinking about it, and seeing the list of what all needs to be done, I can indeed see it costing $100 to $200 on the USA end.

I still thought Canadians had such cheap health care?

Did Michael Moore lie to us?

How long before schools start offering advances to pay for medical checkups back home?
