Oh, wait a second! After all of that noise about the saintliness of soldiers, it turns out the troops are nothing but bags of meat to the powers that be after all...

Quote:
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

Get back out there and die, leeches!

And why not charge them for their medical care, too, while they're at it?

Unbelievable.

Support the troops = blindly support war.

Here is the real situation:
Quote:

Surge Seen in Number of Homeless Veterans

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 More than 400 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have turned up homeless, and the Veterans Affairs Department and aid groups say they are bracing for a new surge in homeless veterans in the years ahead.

Joe Williams lives in a homeless shelter in Washington.

Experts who work with veterans say it often takes several years after leaving military service for veterans accumulating problems to push them into the streets. But some aid workers say the Iraq and Afghanistan veterans appear to be turning up sooner than the Vietnam veterans did.

Were beginning to see, across the country, the first trickle of this generation of warriors in homeless shelters, said Phil Landis, chairman of Veterans Village of San Diego, a residence and counseling center. But we anticipate that its going to be a tsunami.

With more women serving in combat zones, the current wars are already resulting in a higher share of homeless women as well. They have an added risk factor: roughly 40 percent of the hundreds of homeless female veterans of recent wars have said they were sexually assaulted by American soldiers while in the military, officials said.

Sexual abuse is a risk factor for homelessness, Pete Dougherty, the V.A.s director of homeless programs, said.

Special traits of the current wars may contribute to homelessness, including high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, and traumatic brain injury, which can cause unstable behavior and substance abuse, and the long and repeated tours of duty, which can make the reintegration into families and work all the harder.

We can support our troops but at the same time be against the war. My son, as a member of the Natl Guard, wears a Purple Heart from Iraq, his unit was also sent to New Orleans to help with that debacle. I support him and his fellows for performing his duty and fulfilling his obligation to his country. I do not agree with my country's current involvement in Iraq. Supporting the troops is not the same as supporting the war.

Absolutely. And the best way to support them is to keep them out of wars.

Non-interventionism, imperial policies of occupation & conquest, cut off misguided foreign entanglements.

Bring em' home.

You call them Koolaid drinkers, they call you left-wing nut jobs. Language like this does nothing to further the agenda of either side, nor does it make your point of view any more correct.

People using childish language tends have the same affect as when certain elements participate in peace marches. It dillutes the seriousness of the debate and only weakens your hand.

The story stands for itself.

I would support the troops, even if I think they are fighting a futile war and a basically cannon fodder.

Any kind of support completely disappears when you get Bush or Blair telling us, regardless of us being against the war, to get behind them. In some guilt PR war. Therefore justifying their ridiculous war. This is when the support for troops/support for The war on terror (TWAT) becomes difficult to distinguish. IMO.
