Salutations everyone!
With christmas on the horizon I have some shopping ideas, but some questions need first be answered.
Here is the question of the day. Who has ordered something from amazon.com? What kind of tax and shipping fees were involved?
THANKS!

I have.
You need to hurry. Only 33 more shopping days left...and shipping gets slower around Christmas.
Shipping fees are steep. Go into Amazon, order some books and begin the check-out process; it will tell you exactly what the total cost will be before you hit 'confirm'. If it's more than you are willing to pay, just log out. Your order will be deleted. |

For books you're paying $6 every title, and a per shipment cost of $8 if I recall right.
If I order 4 books I pay $8 plus 4 books at $6 each. $32 dollars.
I try to keep my orders less than $150 USD, I'm told they can be taxed by customs beyond that. You might be ok though going over, because if Amazon ships things seperately (which they do often), then it will only show the total for the books you had sent.
So in my example, I might very well get 2 books sent at a value of like $75 bucks each.
Yeah I buy DnD stuff so they're not so cheap. If you're ordering cheap title's then the per book shipment fee sorta screws ya. Really bites my butt too cause I wanna order some titles that I really want that are $10 - $14 each. |

I've ordered, pricing can be steep, and unfortunately they don't ship too much else other than books and DVDs, they won't even ship games out of the US, but they WILL ship out perfumes and fragrances, but not cosmetics. lol. |

What about electronic things? Nintendo games? Ipods? Etc.... Is there a value added tax when it enters Korea?

Amazon doesn't ship electronics to Korea. Only books, DVDs, and videos. |

Yeah but their selection is rather limited for DnD. You can get the basic stuff from WOTC, and some of the newer titles. I like to use whatthebook when I can, but I've gotten to the point where I'm delving into the more obscure publishers.
But yeah I agree I like to check with them first. Problem is with the dollar going down it's not such a great deal. If the book is $30 USD, they just say well it's 30,000 won... |

For fear of posting in the same forum as DnD geeks....I mean 'people'.
I guess the fact that I know all about it from the description sort of makes me an honourable member, though.
In regards to Amazon: Make friends with an American, or find some sort of trustworthy person in the US. Often times you'll get free shipping within the US. Then get them to repackage it as a gift. 97% of the time there is no problem. And if there is, it won't cost anymore than if you had it sent here origianally.
Electronics to here are a no-go. See above advice. You must know some Yankee who can help you out. |

Heh actually I just read on the Korean customs/tax tariff page that books aren't taxed at all. I guess if that's all youre buying then buy all ya want.
I've been thinking there was a 150,000 won max on it all last year. |
