Not much of a surprise, but I stayed up and watched the whole game, and Croatia was pretty impressive. That last goal was a screamer. Becks came, helped, and left, but it's Mclaren who'll be left holding the bag.

It also didn't help that they were beseiged with injuries, but even still, they dropped points early on that they shouldn't have.

Awful, woeful, sh*te, dunno how much more I can say. The only positive on the field was Beckham shining in what must surely be his last international. The defence was cack and you knew from the get-go that all that stood behind a piecemeal centre-half pairing was an untried and inexperienced keeper in Carson. Lampard. The midfield couldn't string two passes together and Lampard was largely absent for the entire match. Hats off to Croatia though who are a solid, battling unit and I wish them well for the upcoming tournament.

Finally, McLaren has to go. Gone, bye, f#ck off. No Englishman is qualified for the job, let alone will be for the next 10 years. If the FA cannot find the money to bring in a top of the line manager they should forget about ever competing in Europe and do what Australia did and move to the AFC. That being said, England would not have beaten Korea tonight, the North that is.

Basically we didn't deserve to qualify. Even the teams like France and Italy "struggled" by losing some of their matches but they had the experience and class to win through in the end and qualify. We are just simply a team of jumped up, over paid has beens. Let's hope some heads roll for this, mainly the FA's.

Best get looking for a team to support next summer then.

This is what I always think is so funny, is that on Tuesday, "I'm in the best form of my life" story was being spouted in the news. Why doesn't he stfu until after the match and then he looks less like a twat when we don't qualify and anyway he'll be off spending his millions on holiday in Dubai next summer. Like he gives a damn. What a bunch of useless old bollocks! I hope that people in England finally get the message that we are simply not a major team anymore. One world cup 40 years ago and a couple of semi-finals since then is hardly awe-inspiring.
The sad thing is that the English jingoist mentality blinds people to the fact they are no longer in the top-tier, and that 'smaller' nations like Croatia and Portugal are miles ahead of us in terms of skill and technical ability.

Well the thing was that they didnt really have much of a change in play or style after sven left cause Mcclaren was basically coaching them when sven was there...

They really need a manager who has some flair or knows what they are doing.

I think the majority of realistic people in England get it. It's The Sun reading idiots who think that we're top of the world and believe we could win any competition. At least we won't have to have Stuart Pearce in a Nazi helmet picture again next summer. Hooray!

My money might finally be on Spain to win it. I think they could do it. And I've never backed them before for obvious reasons, but I think now they could do it. We'll see!

Yes, yes and yes. I agree with all of the above.

I wasn't shocked this morning when I booted up and jumped straight on the BBC to see the result. Disappointed yes, but not surprised. It's funny as I've been having a blazing 'virtual' row on another website with a user on there who has been arguing that he thinks England have been 'consistent' over the last 15-years. He also made some derogatory comments aimed at the Scots after they went out on Saturday, many of who are now taking great pleasure in pulling up all his stupid comments from after the match and rubbing his face in it. He's still sprouting nonsense at the moment, despite what's just happened to England.

It would seem that are a number of England fans that resolutely refuse to accept that our current crop of players are not nearly as good as the Premiership makes them look. I say Premiership, as if you take away the classy continental support that the senior members of the England squad enjoy at their respective clubs, then you can begin to see their ability for what it really is - average.

The England football team now have an empty calendar for the next 18-months or so and I would suggest that McClaren's successor is put on hold for the time being. Sack him now, yes, but the FA shouldn't be in any rush to replace him as there isn't any real point. I think attention should be placed on completely restructuring the English game starting by accepting that we are now an average Footballing nation. Where this devine right psyche has come from I don't know, but we should start by being a little bit more humble about our actual footballing ability and stop prattling on about how great we are simply because we invented the game.

I could go on, but I wont. I think everyone can now see things for themselves.

The problem with the Sun reading idiots is that they outnumber readers of all other newspapers. The majority of English footy fans are unfortunately from this section of society.

I think dissing Sven is misplaced tbh. Those who gave him a rough time are now being made to eat their hats by Man City's form this Season and England's pony campaign. At least Sven had us qualifying and until the last WC playing pretty well.

For me Lampard was the worst player last night. Shocking performance in a 5 man midfield basically set up to shield him and let him paly his game. Where was he? Why was he still on the pitch at 2-2? Is he undroppable?

English football is sick, really sick atm. There are no easy answers as well we need a complete overhaul. The whole England team plc, ROONEYMEGAGOAL, primadonna, WAGs, 3 Lions.com, England til I die affair is making me sick. I miss 10 years ago when everything was on a smaller scale and I actually liked the players and they seemed to care about playing for their country. Just shocking in all areas.

Peter Crouch is a good lad though.

Two-metre Peter is one player I have a respect for. Doubted and slated by just about everyone, he has been one the most consistent players we've had recently. All the glamour boys and media-wh0re players went MIA.

He is the only player I would want to go for a beer with. It makes me sad, when I watch 'world in motion' or'3 Lions 96' video I see a decent bunch of lads. Probably wouldn't want to discuss the finer points of Chinese philosophy with them or choose wallpaper but decent normal English lads nearly to the last man. Switch to 2007 and all I see is a group of detestable, wanker, millionaire, FHM, tossbags. No More Heroes anymore.

I'm not so much as dissing sven but McClaren cause they got rid of Sven when McClaren was basically coaching them anyway. There was no real change when they got rid of Sven.

Marcello Lippi is on the market, having just turned down Birmingham. Thoughts?
