waiting for the you tube clips. Hansen said it was one of the worst performances he has seen in years. At this rate I dont think we will ever win a major trophy no matter who we have in the side. |

^You know, when you look at Man City's current fortunes that statement has an air of truth to it. Sure, he was a complete dork, but it does go someway to reinforcing the notion that it's down to the players.
I accept that tactics and managerial acumen play a big part, but when are people gonna start realising that these players are professionals, they're conversant in tactics and the importance of maintaining formation etc. Our players are simply not nearly as good as they're made out to be. I can't remember the last time I saw a solid and determined England performance against opposition of some distinction.
I think a quiet period of reflection is now needed before we move on. We don't need to fill the managerial position just yet. We can wait. Look at the longer term view and think about who and what we actually want from a manager before getting the cheque book out and signing blank cheques. When you start to add up the money the FA has spent in the last few years getting rid of Sven and now McClaren (2 Million apparently) it makes you wonder if that money could have been used more wisely.
This is a very black day for English football, but one that's been a long time coming in retrospect and hopefully, one from which we'll develop from. |

It's not THAT long since we failed to qualify for a World Cup, which is even more.. special.
England needs to hire Gus Hiddink. |

I liked Sven. He knew better than us all. And came out laughing at the end of it. |

Not true. Both managers are ultimately below-par, although Sven is better suited at club management. The England team isn't good enough, but with the right manager they should have qualified. |

^Nah. I'd say it's because the players are 5hit and the competition has changed.
It isn't the 70's anymore when qualifying for major tournaments was a (relative) formality for England. Nowadays, you've got about 200 nations who all want a piece of the only truly global currency i.e. football. When a team like Croatia can make us look like Stockport County in our own back yard, it's time to take stock and re-evaluate just where this process of throwing money at the game is taking us. Something more fundamental is required. |

I disagree. three quarter finals is pretty good going for this England team. Along the way we had the 5-1 against Germany. We always qualified with Sven. Especially if you think of the Kevin Keegan dirge which we had to witness before. |

Yes, but you're just comparing to even worse managers. The problem is within the FA. They keep choosing the wrong guys. It's clear for everyone to see. |

Everyone except me.
It's the players, they're 5hite and I don't care how you dress it. Look at the midfield last night. Lampard and Gerrard have played with each other in England shirts for long enough to have figured out each others particular playing styles. Have they? Have they balls. Two supposedly world class players who can't play together. Either one of them isn't worldclass or they both aren't and I'm afraid that I'm of the opinion that it's the latter. |
