Domestic Spying Inquiry Restarted At DOJ
By DEVLIN BARRETT, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The Justice Department has reopened a long-dormant inquiry into the government's warrantless wiretapping program, a major policy shift only days into the tenure of Attorney General Michael Mukasey.

The investigation by the department's Office of Professional Responsibility was shut down last year, after the investigators were denied security clearances. Gonzales told Congress that President Bush, not he, denied the clearances.

They need to impeach him, even though he only has one year left. He is the worst president in US history. With the piss poor job he has done, he deserves to be stripped of all his financial wealth and sent home with a negative bank account balance.

Irrelevant. It's about the rule of law, respect for constitutional law, respect for treaties and agreements (which in the US are also part of the law via the constitutional framework), regaining respect and trust around the world and returning power where it belongs: the people.

George W. Bush will never be impeached; I promise you that. As surely as the sun rises, impeachment proceedings will never get off the ground. How do I know? After looking at the long litany of impeachable offenses George Bush has committed and seeing the Congresses cowardly reluctance and down-right opposition to pursuing impeachment charges, I've determined that the current administration can literally get away with anything as long as they deny it. You could have footage of Cheney beating small children with a sack full of kittens and Nancy Pelosi would just shrug and say "Eh, whadda ya gonna do?"

Seriously, if we haven't nailed him by now, it's never gonna happen. The only solace we might take is in the possibility that when Bush and Cheney leave office, they will then be more vulnerable to criminal charges and civil suites; but even then, I'm sure they'll have at least a platoon of the best lawyers Hallibutron can buy to defend them and will probably receive a suspended sentence of community service if we're lucky.

Better to just give up, dig a hole and watch the world self-destruct?

Don't get me started about the end of the world. My father always use to tell me the world would end in my lifetime. I use to think he was crazy. Basically, I think Stephen Hawking is right; between global warming, the likelihood of a nuclear war, the disappearing bees, and a host of other threats, I'd say the smart money says we're not gonna see 2100.

What do you think about Scott McLellan's claims regarding Bush and Cheney and the Plame leak? It doesn't really surprise me. I consider this administration to be one of the most corrupt since the Harding Administration, but nobody seems to really go after the administration and investigate properly...

Exactly. The McClellan "revelation" won't make a bit of difference. I say "revelation because, hey, Bush committed another impeachable offense; what a huge surprise. People'll be upset about it for maybe a month or so, but we're so jaded and scandal-fatigued we'll forget about it soon enough and nothing will be done; not even when the book actually comes out in April. McClellan isn't the first person to write a book saying Bush lied to the country and just like every other book about it, this one won't accomplish anything.
