Should I ship a guitar here, or just buy one?

What model?

Anyone care to recommend some models? There are just so many guitars at Nagwon I can't try them all. Low end or high end doesn't matter.

Hoping to find something with a full sound but not completely midrange dominated, and bell like high tones. Needs to be pretty bright but not tinny. (More martinish than taylorish, like a high end takamine dreadnought if you know what those sound like)

I thought you said you weren't interested in an original USA model?

I left my Martin D-28 at home and bought a Mr. Potato guitar once I got here. Honestly, it sounds almost as good as my Martin, and cost 1/10 the price! You can find Mr. Potato's guitar shop in Songtan, right outside of the Osan Airbase main gate.

Custom jobs are a whole different level, aren't they?

A few years ago I picked up a Cort SJ-10X jumbo-body acoustic which I love to pieces (Unfortuately, they don't make that particular model anymore...). It has all those qualities you mentioned, but it's in the trusting care of a good friend back home right now.

Cort used to make *awesome* guitars for the price; now, they're doing a lot of their manufacturing in China and the guitars are now just *really good*. I picked up an MR-730 FX earlier this fall, and for a sub-$300 guitar it's, well... it's *really good*. The sound & tone aren't quite as deep as the jumbo, but overall I'm quite happy with the sound and playability, and if it takes the odd knock around the apt it's not going to hurt as much as if it were the other one, you know what I mean?

I heard the Japanese make really nice fenders that are cheaper than in the US. A friend of mine swears by his new Fender, and he also loves his Japanese made acoustic....of course you can also get cheap ones made in china, and some made in Korea. Don't buy Chinese, and be prepared to settle with a Korean model. I don't play the guitar though so this is my guitar crazy friends opinion. I play the harmonica, I use Korean ones, they are cheap and do the trick.
