Sorry but I still haven't gotten a clear answer.

Is a foreign language high school still considered a public high school? I understand that students take a test to get into the school but is the program still a government program?

Anyone out there currently working or who has worked in such a school, please PM me. I have some pretty specific questions that I need answers to.

Very few are public. Seongnam FLHS was the first public one, and I think Suwon FLHS is public as well; more are clearly coming. But the big three: Daewon, Hanyoung and Ewha are all private.

Wait...you omit Minjok (KMLA / MinSaGo) from the "Big Three"? That place is struggling a bit these days but remains a powerhouse.

Minjok isn't really a traditional FLHS. It is an uber-elite English only college prep school whose original mission was to send all of its students abroad, but now sends about half (the ones that get into Ivy level schools go, the ones that don't just stay and go to SKY).

Among these schools the big three are Minjok, Hufs and the new Cheongshim Academy.

As for the last poster--you make it sound like there are many FLHSs around you, and that is unlikely to be the case as there are only about 30 in the country and six in Seoul proper (these numbers may have changes slightly recently). You may be getting confused with another type of school. We are talking specifically about Foreign Language High Schools, not foreign language schools. However, Gyeonbuk has at least two FLHSs that I know of, probably more by now and being outside of Seoul the FLHSs there are more likely to be public.
