On a whim tonight, I went and splashed out on one of the new PSP Slims. However - to my dismay I discover to install a custom firmware you need a "Pandora battery". While these sell on eBay, does anyone know if/where they could be picked up from locally (Yongsan I'm guessing...)

A little help?? Smile

Cheers!

I "pandora" battery is a regular PSP battery flashed with code to allow downgrading of firmware. Sony got on to it and NEW batteries seem to lock out the code.

However

You can usually "pandoraize" an older battery yourself. Things have changed quicly on the pandora front , and i havnt kept up.

www.maxconsole.net/ can tell u what u need to know.

Yeah - but that requires modding the battery... or a homebrew PSP.
I see that they sell "Kits" (a pandora battery and magic stick) on ebay - I'm just wondering if its possible to find the same thing in Yongsan

Thanks for the info though.

There will no doubt be someone in an electrical store/market who will do it for a small fee if you cannot get another PSP with firmware. They do it all over Asia cheaply, I dont see why Korea would be any different. Go to the place where they sell modded xbox and copied games mentioned in other threads. Im pretty sure they will do it as well.
Good luck

I got my PSP slim flashed to 3.71M33 custom firmware at a shop here in Busan for 15000W, took 10 or 12 minutes. I thought the price was decent for the amount of hassle it saved me from (trying to find/ create pandora battery and magic stick). Like others mentioned, just check around the shops that mod xboxes etc.

Been reading up on this.

Stories of groups stealing firmwares hacking into each others accounts.

A Russian group punish all those that used the stolen firmware by setting a trap and bricking their machines.

I think the russian group was made up by the original psp hacker dark alex, as some sort of weird joke/test. I also think that that firmware update that bricked people's consoles was only available from a certain website which had messed around with the original code and had nothing to do with the firmware developers. As far as I know its all ok if you get it from good sources like pspiso.com
God im boring.

Story goes that the russian group set a message in there firmware saying that Stefalin ( I think) is a thief and Maxconsole are thieves.

They set a trigger in it that when Stefalin changed the message in the firmware and put it out as his own it bricked peoples machines.

I can imagine all these spotty 12 year olds sitting around planning how to brick a rival groups firmware using fans.

I'd also like to know the location of this store, if you wouldn't mind. I on't think there's anywhere like that in Changwon (mods consoles), and even if there were, I've no idea where to go.

Yea, at least 2 vendors in the north wing of the Seomyeon underground shopping have PSPs. Walk straight up the main hallway (parallel to the # 1 subway line) with the #2 subway line hallway (the way to Lotte Dept store) on your LEFT. It seems like there is nothing up that way, but if you walk a bit, you will come to another shopping section. It branches into 2 shopping lanes. Stick to the right. The vendors are on the right side of this lane. There are 3 or 4 vendors, all have either PS2 or PSP posters in the window. The VERY FIRST one that you come to (about 5 shops in, looks kinda sketchy) flashed my PSP Slim to custom firmware 3.71M33-2 for 15 000W and had the best prices on memory cards, but didn't carry any PSPs.
