Police Use Of Tasers Causes Few Injuries?
Tue Oct 9, 12:40 PM

By Will Dunham

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The use of Taser stun weapons by U.S. police forces inflicts very few serious injuries, researchers said on Monday, but a leading human rights group was unswayed, pressing its call for a moratorium on them.

The weapons, which are sometimes called stun guns and deliver an electric shock that incapacitates a person, are widely used by U.S. law enforcement. Those in this study were made by Taser International Inc of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Advocates argue these weapons allow police to subdue criminal suspects without resorting to more dangerous types of force, reducing injuries to officers and suspects. Critics say they are used too routinely and often against unarmed people who pose no threat, causing needless injuries and deaths.

They should not be banned, they should be used properly. Those that mis-use them should be punished.

Give a cop a donut and he'd find a way to misuse it.

The problem is that police and all government officials usually go free for their crimes. They should be held to a HIGHER standard and recieve the most severe punishment for civil rights violations.

Personally, I'd classify them as one notch below "lethal".

They should be used to stop/prevent violence.

Miami police ran wild with tasers a few years back.
They tasered a 6 year old who was threatening to kill himself with a piece of glass.
They also tasered a 12 year old car theif. And I vagely remember they tasered an out-of-control grandma.
Yeah, it got out of hand. I believe they updated their taser protocols after the reviews of the incidents.
After all the deaths this year and the "Don't tase me bro!" incident I think police departments are going to review their taser policies a little more often.

Debate Over Taser Guns Widens As N.S. Man Dies
Day After Being Shot By Police

By Alison Auld And James Keller, The Canadian Press

HALIFAX - The use of Tasers, already at the centre of a countrywide debate since the death of a Polish immigrant, was under renewed scrutiny Thursday after a man with "psychiatric problems" died about 30 hours after being shot.

Two new separate reviews of the hand-held stun guns were launched by the Nova Scotia government and a House of Commons committee.

Justice Minister Cecil Clarke ordered the review in Nova Scotia on the use of Tasers just hours after the 45-year-old man passed away at a correctional facility, where he was being held on assault charges.

Police did not release the identity of the man, but his sister said he is Howard Hyde, an amateur musician who also drifted between odd jobs.

How many people are tased and don't die? Many more than are shot or beaten and don't die. Tasers are a weapon and should be treated with the same respect you would give to any weapon, but to suggest they be banned is ridiculous. They are the current technological step toward humane incapacitation. They are not a perfect option, but I would rather take a taser blast than get shot.

Dude, reading through your post is as rough as looking at that avatar of yours. Both should be banned - the tasers and that nasty-a$$ avatar. Please!
