Why on earth would they?

Our school didn't renew a guy after he got his F-2, because they lost control over him being able to work at other locations. His contract had no mention of him having to work just at this school only, and he had an F-2, so he took a 2nd job. They were very upset about that. He told them he didn't have to follow their wishes, because it wasn't in his contract, and it was perfectly legal for him to take a 2nd job given his F-2. He also pointed out the many Korean instructors who were working at other jobs PT on the side (other unis).

He was a good teacher, but wasn't rehired because they couldn't control him as easily as an E-2. In th end, he found a top uni anyway.

I think it may be the case that they would save some money hiring someone with an F-2 over and E-2.

The F-2 person wouldn't have to do the mandatory visa run and wouldn't necessarily have to leave at the end of the year.

I'm not saying this is always the case, but I've read some Uni ads here in Busan where instructors hired "in Korea" would not be given anything for flight costs. So I'm assuming that would mean F-2 visa holders.

No, it probably means E-2s, as well. Our uni refuses to pay for Japan flights. Always has.

i think it is something to do with the money allocated by the government to give to universities to pay teachers wages (in public national universities). my coworker belives that the government gives more money to the university for wages if an f 2 or 5 visa holder is given a job there. just looking for confirmation.....

I don't know any universities that pay for visa runs.
