When my great-grandfather emigrated to the US, about 1895 or so, there was still a lot of racism in New York. Unlike now. So, because he couldn't speak or read English--or his own language, probably--they gave him a name that sounded western European, but was still somewhat true to the original.
The result is usually accused of being Irish, and occasionally of being French, but in actuality it was originally Slovakian. Or Czech. Or Albanian. We're not really sure. But because of the tweak they gave it at Ellis Island, our name was carried forth only by the males that my great-grand-pops sired, and not by any of his Old World family; and so, three generations later, our number is pretty small. Maybe a few score, tops.
But in any case, I'm glad there are so very few Blurgalurgalurgas in the world. That makes me feel special, even though I'm not.
Hmmm...kind of like all you Smiths and Joneses at the top of the list...the whole thing is a way of making you feel special, even though you're not. Who invented that list, anyway, the Glee Club? Yay! We're ALL God's little snowflakes! Wheeee.

My (Scottish) surname's in the 2200-ish range.

Anybody else scan the handful of names before yours and think, "How the hell did THAT guy beat me? Orellana? Hairston? Psssht..."

Anyways, fun list.

Could be Top 20 if the Hispanic names weren't included. Very Happy

I'd probably be lower if they counted illegals.

In the 3000s. Surprising, because it's a fairly common last name in my hometown.

My (German) maiden name isn't in the top 5000, but now that I have a Korean surname, I'm in the 300s.
