My co-teacher walked in this morning with a bunch of official government documents and explained that I must bring my diploma in tomorrow for verification.
I am very tempted to tell them all to F off, but I am also curious to see what they will come up with. My diploma is written in Latin and every time I had to get it verified in the past, there was always a problem because nobody could read it.
Aside from the huge waste of time this is, it tells me that the Korean government doesn't trust its own immigration officials, after all they issued me my visa for 6 years.
Gotta luv Korea. |

Careful..they may decide that 'Latin' means your diploma is from Cen./S.

As much as I want to, I'm afraid that if I refuse, they will take that to mean I must have something to hide.
I am actually looking forward to seeing their reactions to my diploma though. |

It's likely that you will have to pay to have it translated and then verified. If so, be sure to keep a certified copy of the translation for future use. |

Isn't it ridiculous that year after year after year after year they make you bring in new paperwork, transcript, police checks etc for every new job you take. It doesn't take too much of a stretch of the imagination to hold onto that one file, those first transcripts, degree copy and or police check. At my current job, on top of the usual start up paper work, the people at the ministry have demanded to see them all again, not once, but twice now as well as asking for consent to go off to the university to check again. An academic record seems more important here that a check about character. Also, what you are teaching, how you are teaching or how much actual teaching you has been neglected. I know I am preaching to the converted here, but... grumble, mutter, grumble... |

I was just asked again by my coteacher to go online and prove that I graduated from my university by showing her my name on a graduation list on their website. I told her last month that no such list exists. At her insistance I emailed the Records Office and asked them to verify that I had graduated from their university. Fat chance of that happening.
I have my original diploma and sealed transcripts, but these apparently, are not good enough anymore.
I'm aware of a website that will verify attendance and graduation from most universities, but my University does not use this service. |

They're doing this again?
Wasn't this just done 2 months ago or less? Did some people neglect to verify their name on the list of alumni or something..?
I've not heard anything about having to do this again... yet. |

My school is slow, I didn't do this 2 months ago, so they are playing catch up. |

OP,
How are Korean Immigration Officials going to verify a degree written in a language they cannot understand? I wish you the best of luck.

You got me. If sealed transcripts aren't enough I don't know what will satisfy them.
I'm expecting there to be fun and games ahead. |

Bigs,
You beat me to it, man. That'll teach me to do actual work during my lunch break!
some waygug-in,
Doesn't your university offer a certified translation of the diploma along with the thing? |
