|

Anyone have have some advice? I'm traveling with the wife and we like to go budget. We do public transportation and like to stay at family inns and eat local fare.
I've been to Thailand (many times) and Cambodia. I enjoyed both, but I'm worried Laos or Vietnam will just be more of the same S.E. Asia fare (i.e. temples, touts, sarongs, stoned beatniks, etc).
Airfare is really cheap to Europe for February and there will be low-season prices to be had. However, it's going to be a bit cold and I've heard that some of the famous attractions get shut down during the low season. My first choice would be Rome - Florence - Naples. Maybe Paris (really cold!).
Your 2 cents would be well appreciated |

Go to Laos.
Start at the top and work your way down to Pakse in the south and then cross into Thailand. |

It's pretty expensive to fly there, unfortunately. However, I'd like to visit Egypt someday. |

i've not been to laos or vietnam, but i did go to europe 2 februarys ago. europe, by euro standards, is qite cheap at that time. i stayed in a fairly nice and well-located (2 min walk from st. mark's) hotel in venice for 40 euro a night. it will be cold, but it's not like it will be any warmer here. |

I also noticed that Tet (Lunar New Year) is observed in Vietnam, so its a write off for travel in early February. Apparently, everything is shut down for AT LEAST a week. |

personally i am a s.e. asia freak and just love spending my vacations there. BUT... if you have not yet been to europe then i wouild recommend that you guys go. it's cheaper in february, the weather is bearable and many parts of europe are a must see, especially italy.
freezing your ass off in paris? i could think of much worst things than settling next to my wife in a quaint little french guesthouse in front of a fireplace with a fresh loaf of bread, some cheese and a geat bottle of wine.
ha! |

Hey, thanks for all the advice everyone. We've decided to go to Northern Thailand and Laos. Should be warm and dry in Feb. I've been to Thailand a lot over the years, but I haven't hit the north yet, so it should be an experience.
So on a side note, any advice for a Laos itinerary. I'd like to see some beautiful scenery, in particular. |
