Well thank God I don't have the Jock itch to go along with the athletes foot. I've been religous about treating the affected area three times a day and drying off my feet completely, which has really helped. Another thing I did was get new bathroom slippers and toss out the old ones. I did a little research online and went to a doctor. Hot water and disinfectant = clean bathroom floor so the fungus doesn't linger. Seems to have worked, but you have to keep treating your foot for up to two months. Even though the itching is now long gone, I still have to apply the meds three times a day for another month or more. Like I said, I won't be going back to another sauna without my own footwear.

Funny thing is, when I mentioned this to my Korean colleagues, they all say, "I have it too!" Shocked EVERY ONE OF THEM!

You're not a man until you've bathed a naked Korean.

Make sure you put your socks on before your underwear when you get dressed. You underwear can drag the fungus if they touch your feet.

I go once, if not twice a week.

It used to be amusing because it simultaneously proved the stereotype that Koreans have small penii, and that I (maybe not you) have a huge one.

Now it's just relaxing.... and the salt wash is unbeatable.

Then how can we be go-choo friends?

Slang for close friends who do go to the baths together.

Are you guys from Utah or something? What's so shocking about being naked in front of other people? I understand how some might be shy being seen naked by the opposite sex, but even by your own? I guess most foreign men in Korea have problems with being seen naked by other men. Could it be that these straight(?) men are deadly afraid of sporting a woody and being labelled as gay by the other men?

Thank God for the Finnish sauna culture! I'm a man and I've been in sauna with men and women so many times that I've lost count. Some of the women were my friends' girlfriends or even their wifes. Sometimes they were my class mates from high school and university. Of course there were (and are) those Finns who didn't want to go sauna with _the opposite_ sex, but they were a minority.

Back twenty-seven years ago, I had a girlfriend in Finland (lived in a small town near Oulu). I visited with her and her family for a few weeks. I loved the sauna culture. However, it was quite a start to be out rowing on a lake when suddenly a group of two dozen Finnish "ajummas" (for lack of a better word) ran out of a house's sauna and jumped in.

A Korean told me that 60 degrees Celsius is common in Jimjilbangs. I said, "this is dangerously hot! This is 140 degrees Fahrenheit, while 100 degrees is plenty warm for me." (I do fairly accurate conversions in my head between metrics and American measurements since I grew up with the American system that is like no other)

He said, "yes, it is designed to release impurities out of your body such as after drinking much soju."

There are things I don't want to know about other guys while I'm talking to them. The length of their foreskin and the curliness of their pubes chief amongst them.
