|
|
I plan to take my wife to Seoul around Xmas and take in the scene.
Any advice on which hotel has the best Christmas dinner (either buffet or set menu) included--or not included--with a holiday package (2-3 nights)?
Nothing fusion, vegan, or Korean-style Western, please. Better if by candlelight with live piano music, and of course the proper holiday ambience. Prefer dress-casual rather than dinner jacket or other formal attire.
Money is no object for this occasion.
And while I'm at it, any advice on where to take in Midnight Mass--preferably in English or Latin--would be most appreciated too.
Mahalo for your kokua. |

Mahalo, bruddahs (and sistas).
Man, I've got real choices, too. Thanks again all.
Hey, maybe I'll be lucky enough to see the little 3-year old, tzechuk.
Now if one of those happenin' joints just happens to have real fruitcake, I won't know what to do.
Yes, fruitcake is great if made right. It doesn't have to be an after-holiday door stop.
You need lots of preserved fruit, the right nuts, and bake it together. Make sure the glaze is natural--like New Zealand flower honey. Then wrap it in cheesecloth soaked in a fine brandy (or cognac, if you prefer) for about 3 months in a nice tin.
It'll be moist and you can sniff it too. |

Just in from the Intercontinental ( COEX and GRAND):
For Christmas we will have a 25 person International Choir called the "Seoul Singers" singing in both of our lobbies from the 19th of Dec until the 23rd. So bring in your friends and family to our lobbies to really get the feeling and spirit of Christmas in Seoul.
The best Christmas Delis in town pop in and get what you want. There is a huge range of goodies.
Including Turkeys
6 kg: 140,000 KW +
8 kg: 170,000 KW +
Keep in mind 8kg will feed about 12-15 people. This comes with Roasted potatoes, pumpkin, chestnuts, steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing, giblet sauce, cranberry sauce.
Christmas menus are in all of the outlets but you must book ahead because by about the 15th of December most outlets are fully booked.
Spend W500,000 on whiskey at any one of our bars or lounges and you will get one room night complimentary in either hotel.
In the oven
We have a 2 star Michelin Chef coming to Table 34 in the Grand for 1 week in February to pair food with Great Italian wines.
We have a 1 stare Michelan Chef coming to Sky Lounge in February for a Foie Gras promotion.
In January we will be moving our breakfast in the Grand Intercontinental to our Grand Kitchen restaurant. This will have a huge selection with a lot of private room access.
In January "Asian Live" will start construction on our new Thai kitchen and 7 more private rooms taking this to 19 private rooms there. I am now working with a couple of suppliers to grow and supply us with fresh Lemon grass and Kaffir lime leaves as they are unavailable in Korea right now. Also looking for a Thai chef.
Kitchen Confidential
You want to see the best example of a stand alone patisserie-bakery in town, Passion 5 has just opened in Itaewon and is really great. It is the headquarters building for Paris Croissant-Baguette.
Gluten Free bread we are now making and we are as far as I know the only ones doing it. Please let me know if you would like some.
The recipe is not perfect yet but it will be soon as we are waiting for certain ingredients
If you have an upcoming private function large or small and you would like someone to take care of it in terms of food from beginning to end please let me know.

Thanks for the heads up on the Intercontinental. At the very least we'll try to take in the choir, especially since my wife's never heard one before.
crusher:
I went to both the Hilton and Hyatt websites for Seoul and the Hilton wins for me hands down. It's also the one another poster recommended. They even have a twice-daily free shuttle bus to Itaewon, which is convenient. Their deli is said to have the widest range of Xmas goodies on offer.
Man, I gotta find me some decent fruitcake. The only time I get fruitcake now is when some poster hurls that epithet at me for posting in all caps. |

I love turkey, but someone would HAVE to be wanting turkey really badly to pay that much. I don't care if it does come with thoe other things. And 500,000 for whiskey to get a free night in the hotel? DUH! You are actually paying for the room, because NO whiskey is worth 500,000. But I guess they'll get a few suckers. |

Actually, that is not a bad price when you consider it feeds 12-15 people and you get all the trimmings with it. It is way less that buying and cooking one yourself. It averages at less that $20 per person, quite a bargin when you think about it. |
