I've recently taken a job where I am doing a bit of recruiting for various school...

is it just me or do Newbie teacher have really high expectations...

they ask for high salaries- they expect to get paid the same or more as a teacher who has been here for three or four years.

Their housing requests are ridculous- Asking for two or three bedroom apartments just for them.

They expect to work less- someone seems to have told them that a 9-5 job is not reasonable....try to find a job with less hours in your home country.

I am sorry, just super annoyed today...two teacher within the past week didn't show up for work and the others are complaining about something.

Someone should tell these people- take a good job or even a bad one, work there for a year then start making demands...otherwise go home and find this supposed dream job you are looking for.

You are dealing with the "Y" generation.

You should tell them that they do not have to work more than 30 hours a week while on an E2 visa and savings are high.

Also, agents are normally cunning, and I hope you are not one of them.
If you are, then what do you expect?

no i am not cunning...i got screwed my first year by a cunning recruiter so i wouldn't do that to other people

I mean I had to wait til my third year before I found myself working less than 30 hours a week...

Funny, when I was in high school, my English teacher called us the "me" generation. That was over 20 years ago. Since then things have gotten worse I presume.

Ok, fair enough, my apologies.

I think it will be difficult to sell because salaries have not risen for many years for beginner teachers.

Also, new procedures will be introduced next week, and so schools will need to prepare well ahead of time to recruit someone.

You will find it very difficult to find people to have an ordinary starting salary plus pay a lot for the visa, police check, medical check, and sealed fresh transcripts ... and possibly more.

I think the recruitment and ESL industry in Korea must change to survive. Maybe to help this Y or gimme nothing generation, why don't you ask the schools to pay for their medical check and police check once they arrive or something? A free airfare may not be enough for rising costs.
