|
|
I am getting a puppy. Before the flame wars, let me start by stating, yes I'm aware of what I'm getting into, and yes she will be coming back to Canada with me. Also, don't worry, she isn't from a pet store. My mother is looking forward to meeting her. She seems more excited than I do.
Well she thinks it's grand that I'm getting a puppy from Korea, and wants it to have a cute Korean name, that is easy to pronounce haha. I have a friend who named her dog soju, and that went over well, but I wonder how original that is. I also know a person who named their dog Nabi (butterfly).
Anyway, the puppy is a female and super cute! Does anyone have any ideas for easy to pronounce Korean puppy names? If you could give the meaning as well that would be great!
Thanks!  |

멍멍청이 (mung-mung-chung-ee)
mung mung == barking sound
mung chung ee == stupid
put them together, voila!
Whatever you do, don't name it Boshintang (dog soup), it's been done to death. Such unoriginality is not cute. |

The most popular Korean names for pets are John and Mary. |

Name it "Snoop Doggy".
Think about it for a second and you'll realize how brilliant that is, and you'll thank me. |

I'm hoping for something with two syllables. While I could remember and say something longer, I don't think my Mom could haha.
Don't worry, Boshintang wasn't an option. I think that's been overdone as well, and am hoping for something a little cuter than dog soup. |

친 구 - Chingu (friend)
오 리 - Ori (Duck, would sound alright shouting that out in the park)
비 빔 밥 - Pibimbap
or just so you'll never forget the place:
김지 - Kimchi |

Nabi ("nah-bee") = butterfly
it was also the name of a typhoon which hit Korea in 2005
so you can cover the cute and rambunctious characteristics of the puppy, all in one! |

But Nabi is traditionally a cat's name in Korea.
Some of my students have dogs, but most don't call them anything with meaning, just Korean sounds... like 고미 (or was it 곰이?), and 보비, 우기, 카카, 루루, 로미, and others like them.
Just call him/her 새끼 and be done with it. |

My dog's Mom was named Sunyee (not sure if that's a typical name for a dog owned by a Korean). I also knew a girl who named her stuffed dog "Mongmong".
*My* suggestion for a two syllable Korean sounding name? Cujo. I always wanted to name a dog Cujo and/or Punch. |

My friend has a dog named ROK - Republic of Korea.
Nemo is kind of cute. And I really like Nabi. |
