It's an isolated case, think about it. LG makes great products. Trust me. |

It's something to be aware of. In some other countries there has been alot of cases of Nokia phones with certain Japanese batteries that have exploded and either killed people or severly disfigured them. The situations I've heard of however are that the batteries only explode when they are charging. This case seems to be different.
I find it funny that the police official needed to be anonymous. Doesn't want to piss off the bigwigs at LG I guess. |

The phone is not the problem however. It's a defective battery. Who knows who made it. |

This has happened before? That was the first I'd heard of anything like that happening. Interesting... |

Exploding Phones! Great, where can I get one.
I'll throw it, at the next SOB who runs a red at a pedestrian crossing.
Doesn't have to be a phone, any Korean product that explodes will be sufficient. |

it's a LG phone, my bet is that it used a battery from LG Chemical. |

What a load of hogwash!
The guy was at the bottom of a quarry with fractures of the vertebra and a melted battery. If he fell from any height, the battery could have imploded on impact, but it wouldn't have killed the man.
LG is right. Virtually impossible. A battery can explode while charging IF the poles on the charger are reversed, and if the heat load is too high. But the volume of acids produced will HARDLY kill a person.

Saw this on the news last night.
They drilled a hole in a battery on the back of a phone and it went mental (who wouldn't?): flying about the table like a firework.
My wife said that they put 4 phones in a bag, and one of them exploded.
I don't know how much was lost in translation.
Just before Christmas, they'll probably do a recall of all phones! |

99.99999% of people would drop a phone if it started sparking. Like a previous poster said, batteries exploding is virtually impossible under normal conditions. And even if it did explode, WHILE he was talking on the phone, he still would be alive but would have burns to one hand and one side of the face.
Anyways, I've only seen a battery explode once, but it was a AA battery and someone threw it in a fire. |

I've had my cell phone, using the same battery, for over 2 years now. Quite suddenly the battery power dropped off, to the point where I have to charge it twice a day just to make one or two phone calls and a handful of text messages.
When I took the battery out of the phone, it looked and felt swollen. Now I can't even get it back into the phone. Anyone know what might have caused that? |

My wife confirmed that it seemed to be a problem with older phones, but the newer phones didn't explode. However, people did put 3 new phones next to each other and they caught fire! |
