You're stuck in a room and in exactly 45 minutes the thick steel door will open. There's nothing in the room (no clocks, no nothing) except for 2 pieces of rope and 1 match. Each rope burns for exactly 1 hour when lit but at different rates. How can you calculate 45 minutes from using those two ropes ?

That can't be it, since you'll only find out at the exact time that the steel door opens.

Nobody answered mine yet:

What's the longest English word with just one vowel?

I just checked and I think some posts were deleted. Weird.

an elderly Korean pool attendant is starting to get sick of having to open the swimming pool every monday, so he decides that the pool will remain closed on mondays from now on. being of reasonably limited English, he makes up a sign which he hangs from the front gate. what's special about his sign?

NOW NO SWIMS ON MON

You are walking through the woods and come to a fork in the trail. One direction leads to paradise, the other to a painful death. At the fork, there are identical twin sisters. One always lies, the other always tells the truth.
You can ask one question to help you choose your path and one of the siisters will answer. You do not know which sister will answer.

What is your question?

Karma, my picks are in. Just spaced it last week.

"Would it be untrue to venture that the chances are against the fact that you may or may not not not be not a liar, and were that NOT true, would you be so falsitidinous as to not tell a lie or not NOT the tell the truth about it in either case?"

"Which path will your sister tell me is the one to paradise?"

Just take the other path from what is said.

Ok, a classic riddle... If you already heard it, please don't answer.

3 friends walk into a hotel looking for a room for the night. The concierge says," We have a suite available for $50 or a regular room for $30." The 3 friends look at each other and decide, "Let's take the regular room." They agree to pay $10 each. They give the man the money and go off to their room. About 50 minutes later the manager arrives. He tells the concierge they are running a special and rooms are only $25 a night. He gives the concierge $5 and tells him to bring it to the three men. The concierge heads off to the men's room and starts thinking... $5 is hard to split between 3 people...... maybe I'll keep $2 and give them $3. Then, they can divide it easily and I'll make 2 bucks.... They will be happy because they are getting money back and will never know anything.... He arrives at the men's room, explains the situation and gives them the $3. They divide it up, 1 dollar each and go to bed happy. The concierge pockets the $2 and goes to bed happy as well.

Each man paid $9 for the room, $27 total, the concierge pocketed $2, 27+2= 29. Originally they paid $30.
The question is, Who has the missing dollar?

The hotel has 25, the concierge 2 and each of the three friends has 1.

25+2+3=30

Just ask ether twin "which way would the other twin tell me is the road to paradise?" Then when you obtain the answer, go the opposite way and you will be going the right way.

EDIT: Lawyertodd beat me to it.

A man rides into town on Friday. He stays for three days and rides out of town on Friday.

How is this possible?

Good for teaching prepositions...
