This is for existing Canadian E2 holders who are re-signing. I asked the school about getting and RCMP check as the regulations are changing.
They said that Immigration memo to them said that existing E2s (not first timers) can get this at the Canadian Embassy - I said no, that the Canadian Embassy does not do that, they only give you the RCMP website info and you are on your own. Am I right? or are they?
THey seemed totally unbale to belive that the embassy would not help and that their Immigration statement was wrong.
In addition, in our new contract, they havee changed this part - Last year - if there is a disagreement in contract - you can apply to Korean legal organizations to settle the dispute - now it says, you can contact the Canadian embassy to resolve problems - I'm sorry, that just made me laugh. After 6 years here, if I am correct, I know that the Canadian Embassy would just laugh and tell you to take it up with the local Labour boards - am I wrong?

They are WRONG. The Canadian embassy will NOT get involved in mediation of a dispute with your employer and they will NOT do CRCs.
YOU are CORRECT in your assumption that the embassy will ONLY refer you to the RCMP. |

There should be a sticky on this: you do not need a RCMP check. Local law enforcement offices in Canada use the SAME computer system and can do CRC checks. |

Yes, but as someone has mentioned in the other Canadian police check thread, if you are overseas local police won't do a CRC for you. (at least that's what he was told) So that leaves the good old RCMP. |

My mother, who holds my Power of Attorney in Canada just called me and told me that she has the forms and is obtaining a RCMP CR check on my behalf. She said it will be in her hands by next week. Our home town is small enough that there is no city/ municipal police, just the Mounties. |

Nope. Not required as she holds my Power of Attorney. |

Sorry, not sure I understand why your mother holding power of attorney has anything to do with a set of your prints being needed or not? Aren't the prints needed to verify you are who you say are, and do a thorough legit check? |

With a Power of Attorney, my mother essentially 'is me' in all legal matters. Its like I'm there in Canada myself applying for the CR check. When you apply in person in Canada, no prints required. Additinally, in our small town, the RCMP are pretty easy going, and not too stringent on alot of "Eatern red tape" policies. Maybe I got lucky, but whatever. |
