Childhood friend of mine and his wife just adopted two identical twin girls from Ethiopia, I think. My, they are cute.
They initially wanted to adopt one, but got the offer of 2 at once.
Cost them like $75,000 to do it. |
If there's money like that involved, who's to say that the parents aren't alive and well, making more babies for the next sale. |

Why 75,000? What does that pay for exactly (how do the costs break down)? It seems like way too much! Is this business or charity? |

I agree. Please, can you elaborate? |

| I don't know specifics of adoption, but I was under the impression that (at least in the States) it's illegal to actually pay money to a woman for her child. The money goes towards the legalities, like social workers who have to check to make sure the would-be adoptive parents are acceptable and the lawyers who have to do all the contracts. The money doesn't usually go to the person giving the child up for adoption. Now as to other countries, I don't know what the laws are. |

Fine, but in this particular case we are talking about two oblivious children going from the rice patties to the insane asylum. In 10 years we'll be reading about a couple of coked-up shit heads stumbling around the Hollywood Hills with Chinese/Southern White Trash accents dealing with identity issues that put their neglectful chunker momma's neuroses to shame.
They have a better chance at life in the hepatitis riddled Chinese orphanage IMO. |
Oh no doubt! In Miss Britney's case, I agree with ya! It won't happen, though. Well...I hope not. |
Just promise you'll never walk that crooked road k? Promise you will never do that to me. |

Depends. Are they coked-up child-neglecting morons too? Not saying they would be, but they could be. Hypothetically. |

I have no idea as to the answer, but I will look into it and get back to you guys. I thought it sounded outrageous, too. I can only assume that government adoption restrictions, as well as demand, have led to gouging families who have money. They have money, I know. He's a lawyer, and is apparently doing well. I think she worked, but left to raise the kids they adopted. |

| The issue here isn't whether 'transnational' adoption is ok but whether Britney adopting kids when a court has denied her custody of her own is ok. Doesn't look to me that she'd provide a very stable home environment at the moment anyway. |

You have to be 30 years old at least to adopt in China.
Britney ain't Jolie yet, she needs a few more years on her to be able to do what she's doing. |

China changed its adoption laws.
| Quote: |
The guidelines include a requirement that applicants have a body-mass index of less than 40, no criminal record, a high school diploma and be free of certain health problems like AIDS and cancer. Couples must have been married for at least two years and have had no more than two divorces between them. If either spouse was previously divorced, the couple cannot apply until they have been married for at least five years.
In addition, adoptive parents must have a net worth of at least $80,000 and income of at least $10,000 per person in the household, including the prospective adoptive child.
Parents can be as old as 55 if adopting a child with special needs.
|
Since she isn't married I don't think they'll let her adopt. Russia wouldn't let Angelina Jolie adopt because she wasn't married either. |
